I've spent years buying partial view seats for shows and when I inquired at the Music Box tonight for future performances of Dear Evan Hansen, they said those were ONLY sold online.

What the #%@&? So, I have no choice but to pay the extra fees for no reason whatsoever? Is the box office staff really put out by having to also sell the the partial view orchestra tickets?

Is this the case or did I just receive misinformation from a disgruntled employee?

They’re used for the online lottery. Relax —no one is “disgruntled” or trying to screw you over!

Nope. These are on Telecharge. They're not lottery seats.

This is the case, since 10/27/17, when the first partial views, starting with Ben Platt's last shows, were listed on Telecharge. At that point, the partial views for the entire block of available tickets were released, then pulled a few days later. About 2 weeks ago, they reappeared on Telecharge, but only for shows through the end of January. I haven't been checking lately, so I'm not sure if they've released any more since then.

Okay, so my question is, WHY won't they sell the available partial view tickets AT THE BOX OFFICE?

How should we know? Ask the box office or Telecharge, not us.

They didn't have a reason. Just said they didn't sell them there. I asked here because someone might have some more information.

You do have a choice. You always have a choice. Don't buy them. If your goal is to get them to change their mind, grumbling about it here and then buying them on-line anyway is not going to change anything.

So the ticket broker around the corner from the box office would stop lining up 10-20 minions daily before 10AM to scoop up ALL the released-that-day partial-view seats.

Because the cancellation line was filled with scalpers buying them and popping them on StubHub for way more $$$ every day. If you go online, you're not going to find many, but there's a better chance that a majority of them went to fans.

Their partial view seats were $159 anyway, it's not like it was some amazing discount, considering the regular price is $199.

I don't understand why It's an issue,  As long as they are being sold, the show gets $ and should be happy.

I do agree that Telecharge only is a major hurtle for people who want to just buy at the BO and save the fees, this makes that impossible.

I'm wondering why they don't just make them available online AND at the BO like most other tickets

Because of the reasons written before yours.

1) These tickets were for a performance that is four months from now. Not last night. Not anytime soon. There's no scalper out in front of the theatre scalping tickets for the spring. Though please, correct me if I'm wrong!

2) Yes, I had a choice and I chose not to buy them. I'll buy for another show. There's no show worth $170/ticket.

3) And yes, when you're buying multiple tickets, saving $40/ticket is a good amount of money. And adding $44 of unnecessary fees on top of that for no reason whatsoever isn't OK.

4) And buying tickets on Telecharge doesn't mean you can't go right over to StubHub and scalp them for a profit.

So, all of these reasons aren't really reasons. But thanks!

No,  but people were  buying them up in person and then re-selling them on line (Stub hub, etc) for obnoxious amounts.   They could tell because the same people week after week were buying the tickets.

At least this way, they infringe on their buying power: by making the scalpers pay fees and being able to more easily track how many tix are purchased.

I don't know why you even bothered to post. You asked a question and when people responded, you reject it because it doesn't match exactly what you want to hear.

For future reference, the box office of any show is a changeable entity from day to day. They get directives from producers, house management, theatre management and its a fluid process. Different answers on different days. Factor in a mad hit show and the variability is even greater. They have to make decisions on ticket allocation day by day, hour by hour. Some day partial views go to cast members, some days lottery, some days a lucky walk up. They probably cant or aren't going to sell them months in advance.

Plus, your attitude sucks. I only can wonder how you came across. I'm always humble and kind and I've had great luck with box office staff.

Considering that those front-row center seats are likely the most coveted and sought-after in the theatre, they could probably charge a lot more than $159, and people would pay it. Plus, when paired with a seat cushion (or two), they're not even partial view at all. There's no reason that they shouldn't be made available to people that don't have access to the physical box office.

But are they being sold? When you go on Telecharge, you see a PV seat you want to buy, and then go to the box office and they refuse to sell it to you? I don't know what their release strategy is as far as when these seats become available, but going to the box office over Telecharge isn't a loophole for you to be able to get them before they are put online. So, if you don't see them online, they won't be able to sell you them.

Some shows do only sell box seats and such in person, but that doesn't seem to be the case PV/box seats with DEH.
