The motown score was my least favorite part of the film so I was more than happy to accept a new score by one of my favorite composers. I don't believe people are that married to the original music which, in my opinion, was better in the second film anyway and what I believe most people actually think they remember from the first film. I'd like to hope that most people would prefer an original score over recycled songs from the film which were, themselves, recycled in the first place.

I was debating whether or not to see the show while I was in London last summer, and the cast's performance at West End Live convinced me to go.
I loved most of the show, but felt it slowed down whenever it returned to Shank and his cronies. Everything with the nuns, though, was hilarious.
And I loved the score, I'm glad that it ended up with original songs.
Pgenre, I agree with you 100%. I love every bit of this score! I believe Alan Menken really outdid himself.
I simply cannot wait for this to come to Broadway!
In regards to the Motown, when my CD came in the mail I immediately flipped it over to see which songs made it into the musical - none. I was disappointed but I listened to it anyways. I am now hooked. I feel a lot of people will be the same way. Disappointed at first, but once you hear the new songs, you are reassured and fall in love with this new adaptation!

Why I did like Motown's contributions to the original film. I have to say I am a huge fan of Alan Menkens score for the musical! and I would love to see a Broadway Engagement or a US national tour.
Saw the show in August and really, really enjoyed it! Let's hope it gets to Broadway very soon for a long, long run!

Sister Act will clearly take a large house. The question is which one??
Theater(capacity) - current show - YES/NO(%)
Gershwin(1,933) - Wicked - NO(0%)
Broadway(1,761)- Promises, Promises. Only if the show bombs. Otherwise - NO(25%)
Palace(1,742) - West Side Story. Highly unlikely it'll close by the fall(or even spring 2011). - NO(2%)
St. James - American Idiot. Unless AI bombs - NO(5%)
Majestic(1,655 approx.) - Phantom - NO(1%)
Minskoff(1,621) - The Lion King - NO(0%)
Marquis(1,611) - Come Fly Away - Minsky's is rumored to want this theater anyway. - NO(20%)
Mamma Mia!(1,526) - Mamma Mia - NO(0%)
Lunt-Fontane(1,509) - The Addams Family. Even if it bombs, I still see it staying through the end of the year. - NO(5%)
Shubert(1,46
- Memphis. It'll be intersting to see how long Memphis will last - YES(75%)
Imperial(1,417) - Billy Elliot - NO(0%)
Neil Simon(1,362) - Love Never Dies - NO(0%)
Clearly it's best chance is the Shubert. After that maybe the Broadway Theater or Marquis(slim chances though). Sister Act may have to wait until spring 2011 if nothing opens up by the fall.
The London production is pretty huge - I don't know if they could fit the set in the Shubert without doing some down-sizing. If they keep everything intact, the theatres it could actually fit in (and which might be available) would be the Broadway, the Palace and the Marquis.
Theatreguy, I agree with you on those three theatres. But, let's not forget the old threads about the sizes of theatres VS Broadway and in the West End. That on Broadway we have medium sized theatres whereas in London they have theatres that are on the smaller side of things and then huge ones in terms of sets and seats and nothing really in between.
I do think that they would either downsize some of the sets to fit in a medium sized theatre like the Shubert for example. Or they very well might be able to go into one of the three theatres you mentioned without having to adjust the set at all.
Also, I just wanted to add that despite The Majestic housing Phantom and that show's massive set. I can tell you from personal experience of being backstage. That set in that theatre is the Broadway version of the circus act with all those clowns fitting into that little car.
I'm seeing this in April and can't wait - bought the cast album but so far have resisted all urges to play it - don't know how much longer I can hold off!!
I saw it this August in London and I really liked it although I think the first Act needs to be tightened. I think it is gonna have a long successful run on broadway and I can't wait to see it here

I saw it in London. If they can fix the first 20 minutes, which are a mess (and the writing team is aware of this) I think it could be a smash.
Once the choir starts learning how to sing, this show is pure gold.
gvendo2005, a lot of what you said just wasn't accurate and now it appears you've disappeared from the thread completely.
-"Sister Act" was a huge hit overseas, one look at imdbpro.com confirms that.
-It did not flop in Pasadena, in fact it set box office records for its small two month run.
Oh yeah, and you say you'll reserve judgement when all you've done this entire thread is judge the show.
I'll reserve judgment when there's nothing there to judge. I've had compliments for the show too - Alan Menken was a good choice, Patina Miller is better casting than Dawnn Lewis. Beyond that, there's really not much to say. And what connection did you have to the team? If you're the asshole I remember butting heads with several times over the smallest issues, maybe that explains your know-it-all attitude.
Since this is the first time I've posted on these boards in awhile, I'm probably not.
And those aren't small issues, they are things you posted that I felt needed clarification because they were false, simple as that.
False by whose definition? This was a very early stage of the project, and I doubt you'd have any more knowledge than someone who was actually there.
Next season is shaping up to be a (potentially) fantastic one for new musicals:
Love Never Dies
Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark
Sister Act
Catch Me If You Can
They are false since reliable sources contradict your statements.
The overseas success is on imdbpro, which states that the film made $92,000,000 of its $231,600,000 gross overseas.
Your statement that the Pasadena run was a flop is contradicted here, on BroadwayWorld: https://losangeles.broadwayworld.com/article/Sister_Act_Sets_Pasadena_Playhouse_Record_20061208
So yeah, if you can find a reliable source that states otherwise, please feel free to contradict me and I will step back. If not, please stop implying that I don't know what I'm talking about.
