How many Broadway houses currently exist, and how many are currently filled? What is the record low percentage in recent history?
With the number of closing notices and rumored closings dwarfing the number of openings lately, I'm curious how the number of shows open relative to the number of houses available will be in February versus history. And to think, just a few months ago shows were being delayed due to lack of a house...

IMO i believe there are 17 shubert houses 9 nederlander houses and 5 jujamcyn(they are the most unfriendly).then you have independents biltmore ,hayes, hilton, new am,american airlines, beaumont, mitzi. im sure i missed one or two but the number is around 40 to 42 theaters . There are alot of shows going out cuz of economy ! Even Radio City cut there Hit christmas show down by a week cuz of light ticket sales . You may start to see smaller shows that have a lower operating cost and no man power . Im sure there will be one or two dark houses but they have a way of filling up even when the economy is down !! Riedel better start looking for a new job LOL

There are, I believe, 42 (maybe 41) Broadway houses.
Of those 42, there are 30 that are occupied right now.
By the end of January, that number will go from 30 to about 25. With a few more being occupied later on in the Tony season.
I have to believe that the early 90's had the lowest number of houses occupied.
There are 39 Broadway houses. 40 when Henry Miller's Theatre reopens.
Anyone know where I can get a list of what theatres belong to who? Or if any of you know off the top of your head...

I don't have any hard stats & I confess that I cannot remember the year, but I do recollect one dark, horrid winter about 10 years ago in which there were but 8 houses open at one point. That # is burned into my brain because so many of us were out of work. It lasted only about a month, though, & then spring came & things got better.
what were the 8 shows?
It might have been 1996? There was a massive three day blizzard that year, and about 14 snow storms total that winter.
Well, let's see.......
Cats
Phantom
Les Miz
Miss Saigon
Beauty/Beast
Who's got three more?

Winter with only 8 shows open, you may be thinking of last Thanksgiving.
All seriousness, that number is frightening. Wow, the 90's did suck.
