I notice people love jumping on bandwagons. Is this the show of the week that everyone should jump on the bandwagon and bash left and right? It's in its FIRST FEW DAYS OF PREVIEWS for god sakes. No wonder these Broadway boards get such a bad rep.
I don't get it. You want Broadway to succeed, yet you butcher shows to death before they open.

Another thread? really?

I think people are expressing what they think about the show...not necessarily..butchering it...everyone can express their thoughts about the show.
and I dont think TRENDY is the right word...more likely...Is Cry-Baby the new PIRATE QUEEN this season...(just kiddin')
Hey why dont we start A CRY-BABY love thread then?

Well this thread is just begging for a fight, but I see your point. People are far more enthusiastic about bashing a show (even if they haven't seen it) than they are about saying anything good about a show. What's that say about Broadway fans? That we get more enjoyment bashing a show than we get out of praising shows? That sounds more like the attitude of someone who opposes Broadway all together.
And I like Pirate Queen. :p

But Jay....you see a ton of shows and are a great poster on the board....you don't see where I'm coming from about how people love to latch onto the "popular opinion"...the show has had a handful of PREVIEWS.

How can someone say people come here just to bash a show. Look at the positive threads for, "In the Heights", "South Pacific" and "Passing Strange".
"Well, of course we want Broadway to succeed. As long as it's only the shows we want. Duh."
Why does Broadway have to consist of only the shows YOU want? Everyone has different taste and different things appeal to different people.

Who is that question for?

i guess im invisible.
Oh thanks HBBrock...
In fairness to some posters..All Ive seen are posters who've seen CRY-BABY and was disappointed ( I think that's the right word- DISAPPOINTED) and these are the same posters whove seen almost all the shows this season... I did not see anyone really jumping in the bandwagon who have not seen the show nor heard the demo recording.
and this is one of the purpose of the Message board is to share your opinion about the show youve seen.. either be a positive or negative- so others can SELECT shows they think will work for them!
I will champion shows that I think its good..like Xanadu, Passing Strange, In The Heights, Sunday in the Park with George, South Pacific, August : Osage County and hopefully I will like Gypsy too...
I actually MIGHT see the show...if time permits...but like everyone... I know we have different taste in musicals... BUT ... there is such thing as BAD MUSICAL, GOOD MUSICAL and GREAT ones... and that's why we have this board to discuss our thoughts..
For the record- I love to see a GREAT SHOW!

I love to see a great show too....I am trying to make it back to NYC in December to see Cry Baby and Shrek.
And yes, we all have different opinions of what's great.

Something tells me that the majority of people in the theatre are ENJOYING the show...and the few people who hate it happen to be the diehards that post here and at ATC.
If you haven't seen the show, or the people seeing the show, how can you make a statement like that?

Because I've read in a few different places that people in the theatre are really into it as a whole and giving major ovations.

well i definitely give shows a chance. i LOVED Mary Poppins when everyone and their mama dogged it. i even hate Disney and still loved it. so i will post my thoughts after i see it.

I loved Mary Poppins AND Young Frankenstein :) How's that for loving "hated" shows? :)
So ignore the negative posts--do the people at rotten tomatoes deal with such tsuris?
I think people give the posters at BWW WAY more credit than any of us deserve--Margo is the only one who can open or close a show!
