Wasn't referring to you BroadwayGuy.....was referring to the people that have constantly obnoxious posts. :)
It's a great show. There are flaws, but I would hardly say there are any shows out there that are *perfect*. Have a great time, I am sure you will....it's entertaining. HAVE FUN!

It's great.. Wonderful.. The cast in NYC is great.. I hope you have a great time.. Wicked rocks.. I can't wait to go again!!!
I liked it a lot. I do wish the 2nd act was thinned out a bit so it didn't feel like a marathon, but I really enjoyed it and LOVE the CD.
I would definitely see it again.

It's good, but by no means great. I feel that it relies on spectacle to sort of cover up the flaws in the book and the forgettable music. When I saw it on tour, Stephanie J. Block and Kendra Kassebaum were outstanding but it seemed like they were outstanding in spite of the material they were given, and not because of it.
As was already mentioned, the show's book is the number one flaw and leaves a lot of loose ends untied. I wasn't real thrilled about the ending and I thought it would be a lot more poignant and touching if they had just left it the way it was in the novel. But it's an enjoyable evening of theatre, and most of its target audience won't even notice the flaws, so I hope you enjoy it when you see it.
I saw the tour and really liked it. I was out of Act I thrilled beyond belief. It was that Act II . . .

I've seen it twice.
It's okay.
A nice night at the theatre.
OK but nothing to lose sleep over
If you can, go for the $55 "partial view" seats, if they are available... I was surpised that I was able to get one for July ---
Still, one of the best values on Broadway, IMHO.
>> Hey Sean, I'm actually a 26 year old guy.
That's nice. You're not the WICKED demographic, but that doesnt mean you cant have a good time.
>> And whats wrong with paying the full price for a sold out show if you want good seats?
If you're paying a hundred-plus bucks for something, then I suggest you'd better really, really like it.
>> there's nothing worse than people on the board that are so stuck up and have their noses pointing straight up in the air regarding theatre that they forgot how to have fun and just enjoy Broadway for what it is
... an overpriced, over-valued form of truly cheap entertainment. If this is supposed to make me love WICKED, flaws and all, it aint succeeding. I understand why the show has run as long as it has. I just dont think it's worth all the hoopla it's gotten in the process. The score is eminently forgettable. The staging takes what's a bunch of small scenes and sprawls them all over that huge set, which denies some of the best scenes any sense of focus. The lighting at times is so murky you cant even see who's on stage. It has two opportunities for two actresses to chow down on the scenery and it has one actual moment of brilliant stage magic. But one moment in a two hour musical does not a thrilling experience make, sorry.
And if that's looking down my nose, get over it and move on.

I really do have to say though that I thought the lighting and set design were pretty magnificent (if, as many have brought up, a little too heavy on the spectacle).
I don't really quite understand the logic behind criticising a show and then being labeled as unable to have fun. For one, just cause I had problems with the production doesn't mean I didn't enjoy parts of it. And number 2, I really feel that with prices as high as they are, I'm entitled something more than just a good time.
You visit a cheap hooker for a good time...but you pay 100 bucks for something memorable...
okay okay, bad example.
I just feel that if I can read a book at the library for free and tear it apart, or see a movie for 7 bucks and trash it, then why should I switch my brain off when I pay 75-100 dollars for a B-way show?

WICKED is good because Julia Murney is in it! She's an amazing Elphaba

You may want to see Legally Blonde instead. After all, it's probably a lot deeper.
LOL!

Brian, you'll like it, but if you get the chance, definitely try and see something you aren't planning on; those little surprises in theatre found by seeing something random are a true joy
Wicked's better than 95% of the musicals that everyone on this board wants Encores to put on, and not as good as the top 10% of all musicals.
To sniff at it and groan about its shortcomings is fine. But it contains more momentum, and the right songs and book scenes at the proper moments to be respected.
And then there's that little issue of almost universal public adoration.
The internal mechanics of Wicked are problematic, but the canny pacing and judgement about pulling in the audience and holding it can't be dismissed.
There are very few musicals that have audiences buzzing and clapping before the lights go down. And this is happening four years after it opened.
I think that Wicked is so easily dismissed by so many people is shortsighted. It's going to be around for a very long time, and it's certainly better constructed than a number of the old West End megas; those that have closed (meow) and those still running (mask, candles.)

Do you have any idea how hard those actors and actresses have worked to get there?

On average? Probably not much (or less) more than their peers in any other show on Broadway.

Yes... and if it'll save the life of just one child... :)

everybody just breathe - my oh my people have very different opinions about this show -and that is what makes b'way, broadway!
my two cents -
Wicked is a fun musical and with the right women in the leads, it can be pure magic. i have seen it with almost all of the leading ladies over the years and think that they can either make or break the show.
i still think that kristins/norberts last show was amazing and so much fun!! although ana g. was an amazing Elphaba!
and that's all folks

I tend to fear boo-hooing shows that have been as popular as WICKED. It must speak to someone because everyone's heard about it and wants to see it, even if they don't do Broadway, and every average, educated person I know who's seen has really enjoyed it.
Just because it is a big hit doesn't make it automatically Satan's spawn. :)

Saw it twice once with the OBC, then again when Taye Diggs was in for Norbert. It was good, go have fun but it is far from the best show ever on Broadway
