I know most of you have seen it by now. I have yet to see it and am seeing it for the first time in January. Will this be the best musical I've ever seen? I am from Florida and have only seen 4 Broadway shows ever. (Crazy For You, The Life, Beauty and The Beast, Mary Poppins)

Not *the best* musical you've ever seen...but it is certainly one of the best and close to the top of my list. Others on this board can't stand the show, but I have seen it 12 times now and already have tickets for my 13th and 14th time. I hope you enjoy it!
It's certainly on entertaining night out (I've enjoyed myself both times I've seen it) but it's not the best musical ever. It's fun.
its a lot of fun if you can overlook its flaws (i can)
Have a great time
One of my favourites...like WithoutATrace said though...many people don't like it. But 4 years later it's still going strong week after week at the box office...says something, I guess.
Enjoy it!! :)
Wicked is my favorite thing in the whole world (not just musicals ). But, as other people have stated, it is always a matter of opinion.
Will this be the best musical I've ever seen?
So much so that when you leave the theatre you'll be spouting bastardized adjectives and your skin will turn green.
If you like power ballad after power ballad and awful lyrics, plus a book that leaves loose ends untied, it's for you. It is entertaining though.
I LOVE Wicked, and I hope you will too! Have fun seeing it!

I think the score is pretty great and the show is amazing spectacle, but for the most part I was really let down with the plot-- specifically the ending.
The show seems to set itself up with all these political allegories regarding Elpheba and then at the last minute they chicken out and tack on a typical sappy Broadway happy ending. Plus the fact that the majority of the dialogue is very tongue-in-cheek and even after 2 hours and 45 minutes they still never seem to fully develop Glinda's character.
I'd say you'll have a fun time at the show, you might even pick up the OBC, but you'll feel a little dirty afterwords. Like somehow you've been strapped to a chair watching feel-good propaganda for the last 3 hours.
HBBROCK,
This is one of my favorite musicals, and I have seen quite a few. The first time I saw it, I was blown away. I had never seen a musical get a standing ovation at the end of Act One! The second time was still fun. I hope that you will enjoy it as well. It is a great feel-good night at the theatre.
I disagree about the ending. It is still very sad for me, even though to some it may seem like a "typical sappy Broadway happy ending." It is not as depressing as they could have made it, but it is very bittersweet.

let's get into this without insulting anyone too much. First of all, like alot of film adaptations of books, the play is not nearly as good as the book, they sugar coat the story, and take out alot of great elements. The book is alot darker than the play. As for the play, well, the music is OK, Schwartz, seems to always write like it's still the 70s. yes, the show is one of the top shows for a spectical. But what turns me away from shows like this IS the fact that people have seen it 10. 20 and more times...don't let that be part of your reason for seeing it, I actually DID like the show, but just like a good movie, How many times can people sit through a show. There are still some great shows out there, IE: 110 in the Shade, Grey Gardens, that rely on nothing more than great stories, music and acting. Is it worth a look?...yes. just don't let these people who see the show all the time and say it's the best thing since sliced bread be your reason.......

Apparently I'm the only person on this thread who can't stand Wicked, and that's ok. Chances are that you'll probably like it--most people do. I guess I'm just wired incorrectly because Wicked makes me want to gouge out my ears/eyes. Again, it's all a matter of opinion.
Oh, I didn't like it either. I thought that it was rather annoying, but it was nice to look at.

Yeah, personally...I couldnt see a show more than once (especially at $240 for two tix!)...whats amazing though is that after 4 years, Wicked is still the hottest selling show on Broadway. That's impressive!

I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and was blown away. It is not the best show or my favorite, but it's up there. I'll probably see it a few more times (via lotto, of course).
I, personally, love the show. Yes, it has it's flaws and is not the best thing ever written; but it is fun, enjoyable and an overall good theatre going experience.
One piece of advice: Dont pay full price for the tickets.
Another piece of advice: Dont go expecting the best thing to happen to Broadway since Mamma Mia. Yes, it's been running for four years, but that doesnt automatically mean it's all that. "Popular" and "successful" does not equate to "good", just "appealing to the lowest common denominator".
I dont especially like the show. IMHO it's overblown, and the creative team seemed to have worked in different parts of the building at times. Although lovely to look at, the set doesnt really speak to the play but rather the book it's based on, so unless you've read it, there's one really big scenic element that will make you wonder WTF? But as something written for a core market of 14 year old girls (which it is, guys, so put down the torches), it succeeds admirably.
I saw it with the original cast and then again here in Denver during its 1st national tour. After seeing it a second time I realized that I don't need to see it again. If I do happen to see it again, it will have to be on Broadway. I was not as impressed with the touring production.

Hey Sean, I'm actually a 26 year old guy. And whats wrong with paying the full price for a sold out show if you want good seats? I am gonna be up there on vacation and don't have time to wait around and hope to win a Rush Lottery.
Sean's always like that; don't worry.

There are some cool people on here...but there's nothing worse than people on the board that are so stuck up and have their noses pointing straight up in the air regarding theatre that they forgot how to have fun and just enjoy Broadway for what it is. :)
