I've seen the show seven times with various casts. Is it perfect? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. I always welcome a return visit to "Wicked."

I would have to say very good.
I like Wicked. It's not the best musical out there, but it's not even close to the worst.
I found wicked to be quite enjoyable. It revisits a well known story and forces you to think about that story from a different point of view. I found Wicked to be creative and fun. I was fortunate enough to see it twice with the original cast, and I am looking forward to seeing it again very soon.
It's good, but it's not that good. It's overrated. There are better shows to see. However, it's not terrible ands you will have a good time. Just don't have such high expectations.
Since Pirate Queen, Coram Boy, and Grey Gardens have closed, I have an open slot to fill (September 2nd). One person I am traveling with has not seen Wicked yet and I have seen it 4 times (once on tour). Does anyone know how long the current cast is scheduled to be in?
Thanks

I believe the current cast is in till January.
It's a fun show. I've seen it three times and always enjoyed it.
Wow, the current cast is in for that long? Darn, I might have to see this in December, and was hoping for someone other than Julia Murney as Elphaba (I understand shes really good, I just was hoping Stephanie J Block would come and join the show :P )
Anyways, to answer the question, WICKED is a good show to see once, but I'd never see it again. Just like, to say you saw WICKED.

There's a big difference between the best show someone has seen and their favorite show. Wicked is no where near the best show I've seen with it's oversimplified lyrics and cliche plot, but it is one of my favorites. I've seen it 3 times and wish I could afford to go more.
I have seen it twice one in New York in 2004 and recently last Mrach in LA .
I didnt like it in both times.. I thought it was a 'liitle pretentious" but again some people love it. I guess its probabbly its how you relate to the characters. I just did not like how they try to explain everything... but that's Gregory McGuirre's novel..
Well I like XANADU and some people dont like it... To each its own...
Actually in 2004- I was so in love with Avenue Q & Caroline or Change and there's too much hype about Wicked...that might have prejudiced me. but when I saw it again after 3 yrs later- I still did not like it.. but Eden Espinosa was great ! I dont know why I just dont like it ? --but I listen to the OBCR all the time

Wicked would be on I consider to see. It's a wonderful production, you certainly get you moneys worth! I like it, not as much as The Phantom of the Opera
Everyone's tastes are different. Some prefer snails and some....
Ooooops, sorry, wrong soliloquy. At any rate, I personally have a huge fondness for "Crazy for You" (a real professional production) because the show is infectious and the score is divine.
Personally, I am allergic to crustatians AND to "Wicked" which I think is hollow pap masquerading as big time theater. There are better shows on the boards than "Wicked" (and it's too bad "Gardens" will be gone when you get there, but I hope you enjoy the show anyway.
But do try to squeeze in "The Drowsy Chaperone" which is so, so much fun.

I remember reading January, but you could be right.
If you like fun spectacles, Wicked is for you.
Every one of my middle school students wants to sing a song from it for auditions I always say NOOOOOOOOOO, (because, sure enough, 16 other girls sing something from it too). So I have to say, I'm a little sick of it.
But you can't not see Wicked. It's a part of theatre history now. I say go see it.
I have seen Wicked twice. Once in NYC and once on tour in San Diego. I would rate the NYC production in the top 10 or 15% of shows I have seen. And my first was MY Fair Lady in 1960. The touring performance was not nearly as good. I agree with some that it is not a show I would care to see over and over.
However I strongly disagree about the strength of thr score. Over and over others downplay the music and especially the lyrics. Some find the lyrics silly or immature. I feel the nutty phrases and twisted syntax are brilliant and create the mass popularity of the show. I have many musical CDs and probably as many records as the Man in the Chair: and the Wicked CD appeals to me as much as anything else I have.
I just feel the show is so uneven. Two great female roles. Then MANY undeveloped supporting roles. The Wizard is extremely under written. Morrible not as bad - but still under written.
The score has some enjoyable moments. But also some real awful moments. To each his own, But I find some of the nutty lyrics and phrases plain stupid. Leave Sondheim to handle nutty lyrics and rhymes.
Still it's an enjoyable show. But sadly could've been so much more.

You'd think since it's based on such great source material (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is one of my favorite novels, period.) it'd be a wonderful show, but not so much.
I believe the creators took out everything great about the novel, and turned it into a cheap knock off and called it WICKED. It only relates the the novel in title and character names. Everything else is different.
Like someone else said, if you haven't read the novel, the set doesn't make much sense. I understand what they were going for, and it works out, but I don't remember them ever explaining the Time Dragon Clock.
In the right hands, WICKED could've been a deep, dark, great show, ala Sweeney Todd, but it fails miserably.
My advice, read the book. It entertained me more.

Well, if you like spectacle, a couple of good characters, Wizard of Oz, and a lot of green everywhere you look, then you'll like it. It might not be the best show you see, but it could be one of your favorites. I personally didn't like it when I saw it, but I don't like big "epic" musicals anyway, so you probably shouldn't base your decision on my opinion. But you know, it's fun. It's probably not gonna cause you to have deep, fulfilling conversations about the characters and the story, but you'll probably have fun watching it.

As much as I love the show (and I truly do), Evan Almighty is right, the book is much better. Absolutely one of my favorites. And if you haven't read the book don't worry--you probably won't question the set. I didn't at least the first time I saw it.
Not the best show ever but it's good enough to go out and see.

I just saw it for the first time in chicago last nite...my family and I loved every minute of it...except the wizard was probably as good as an average high school boy....but galinda and madame morrible made the show...elphaba was good too...this was by far the best show i've seen...Before last night I had seen around 20 different Broadway/Cirque shows and this was at the top of my list!!!!
