Well this definitely seems a bit bizarre. But then, why go for six seasons and a movie when you can go all out fabulous?
SCRUBS Creator Bill Lawrence Reveals Plans for Broadway Musical Version!
All I ask is that Dave Franco is involved.
All I ask is that Dave Franco is involved.
Bizarre indeed!
I wonder if they would pick a story from the show to expand, write an original story based on the characters or combine more than one story?
The article suggests that in terms of story, they want to mash the pilot up with the episode with Kathryn Joosten. Sounds about right, combining one of their most memorable (not to mention heartbreaking) patients with the idea that the interns are relatively new to their jobs.

I really wish they wouldn't. That episode was perfect as it was, on television.
I love Scrubs but I don't think this will translate well to stage.
I totally agre--I wish they wouldn't.The charm/beauty/wit of Scrubs was following each characters development over the seasons and becomming part of their lives.2.1/2hrs on stage would be too fragmented and impossible to do character development to that extent--you would either have to go into it[audience] knowing[or forgetting] all that you loved,or base it on a similar idea-and call it something else. The whole things sounds ridiculous.-a big fat NO from me.

This will never happen! Anyone remember THE LOVE BOAT musical? The producers actually held a press conference to announce it and Gavin MacLeod was there to to announce that he would starring in the show.
Another one that never happened was the HAPPY DAYS musical and FAME struggled for years before the producers finally gave up on getting it to Broadway.

The Happy Days musical is currently touring around the UK and Ireland, seeing if there is enough interest for a west end transfer. So its still Alive!

That Fame musical is such a terrif example of great creativity with all the same characters but with odd names. Schlomo, Coquette, Janthony-Een Ray.
I hope Scrubs is like that.
Oh don get me wrong, Fame is not a great show (however the original 88 production at Coconut Grove Playhouse was pretty great, why they watered it down so much I will never know), was just saying its gone on to have an enormous life. I know Fame well, I spent plenty of time in that show here in the UK, it's a great platform for young talent starting out.
Didn't Bobby Lopez and Jeff Marx write the Scrubs musical episode?

I'm disappointed that it isn't being billed as "The Beverly Hillbillies...The Musical, That Is."

taboo, among others yes. They were not the only writing team on that episode though.

Awful idea. Almost as bad as season 9 which ruined the show.

Wasn't that season the Clampetts went to NYC, England, the Ozarks and even visited Hooterville and stayed at the Shady Rest Hotel? It was pretty bad from what I can recall.

A couple of questions to ask when considering anything for stage adaptation (whether book, play, film, tv show):
What do these characters have to sing about?
How can we tell this story better? In the case of adapting a TV show, what you have is not a story, but some familiar characters. The task would be making a show interesting enough to build around these characters.
I think it would an interesting idea, Bobby Lopez would make the music Hilarious and if they pulled it off right it could be a brilliant show! I’m excited for it
