I would love to see Powers as Fay. Her version of "There Won't Be Trumpets" (as has been pointed out) is thrilling.
I sincerely hope the rumors of her being cast as Charlotte in the revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC are true. She's as ideal as you could find for this production.

I agree, somethingwicked, I discovered her "There Won't Be Trumpets" rendition from the youtube video you posted, she's magnificent. I loved her as Young Phyllis, would be thrilled to see her as Charlotte in NIGHT MUSIC, and it'd be even greater if she took a weekend break from that to return to Encores! for ANYONE CAN WHISTLE. She could be part of the new generation of Sondheim performers.
Anyways, back to Bernadette.

Isn't it time to revive Gypsy again? Peters could reinvent her reinvention of Rose.

And what is Laura doing in the fall?

Yes, Herman said he's not interested in seeing Bernadette as Dolly but didn't Arthur Laurents have Patti banned from playing Mama Rose? So you never know.
...or maybe that's just me hoping this will happen at some point. I mean, come on, Bernadette is the IDEAL Dolly.

I know Dollypop said Victoria Clark was really interested in playing Dolly in the revival of Hello, Dolly! I honestly would rather see her.
I am curious as to what's bringing Bernadette back to Broadway though!

Posted: 7/13/09 at 12:56amMe too; whatever it is, I'll be there. She's a really unique talent and she always delivers. I'm anxious to find out what it is!

givesmevoice, Clark did HELLO, DOLLY! for Pittsburgh CLO about five years ago.
She was absolutely charming in the role, but she doesn't have the recognizability to ever play it on Broadway.
I still agree with Jerry Herman in thinking Queen Latifah would be an ideal star for a revival of the show.

Posted: 7/13/09 at 1:08amI think any producer would choose Patti LuPone over Victoria Clark to lead a revival of DOLLY. And Patti apparently has Herman's blessing.

Posted: 7/13/09 at 1:12amAlthough I'd absolutely, positively love to see Bernadette as Dolly, I just really want to see a DOLLY revival in any capacity. It's been too long since it's been on Broadway and it's such a fun, enjoyable show (if properly executed, of course).

yeah, I definitely agree with that. honestly, though, I think I'd rather see Clark in the role. I know I'd adore LuPone as Dolly, but I do love Victoria Clark.

Posted: 7/13/09 at 1:52amActually, if Bernadette says she's doing a show in the fall - Does anyone think she would go into NIGHT MUSIC? It seems the PERFECT fit for her and the timing would be right...

#42re: So what show is Bernadette doing in the fall?
Posted: 7/13/09 at 2:15amHonestly, if Bernie says she's coming back to Broadway in the fall we would know about the show at this point and I'm pretty sure she's not going into FELA.

Posted: 7/13/09 at 2:16amAt 61, Peters is far too old for Desiree (especially in this production.)
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
#44re: So what show is Bernadette doing in the fall?
Posted: 7/13/09 at 2:18amNo, no, and no. Bernadette would not make a good Desiree. Maybe in a concert production, like Patti LuPone did.
#45re: So what show is Bernadette doing in the fall?
Posted: 7/13/09 at 2:19amFar too old? If Judi Dench could successfully play the part when she was 60, 'm pretty sure a much younger looking Bernadette could pull it off. And pull it off marvelously.

First of all, Nunn has built this production on the concept of Desiree being younger than usual.
Second of all, even if Desiree was cast "traditionally," are you telling me Peters would be believable as the mother of a thirteen year old child?
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
#47re: So what show is Bernadette doing in the fall?
Posted: 7/13/09 at 2:21amBernadette could not pass for 35-40. And that is the age Nunn wants Desiree for this revival.

It would be a lot less distracting than trying to figure out who the hell was related to Audra in 110 IN THE SHADE.
