Something Rotten! Cult following?

Something strange happened to Something Rotten! since I saw it in previews - it appears that the show has picked up a sort of "Rocky Horror"-like cult following. The audience at the Halloween night show seemed to not only know every word of the show, even the ensemble members have their own fans. It was particularly annoying but gratifying to not hear the line "And I am telling you I'm not gonna be an omelet" for all the screaming. Sincere apologies if I've missed a thread to this effect, but I have to say that witnessing the manic reaction the show's getting was extremely gratifying. It's just good, silly fun - and I wonder if this show's going to last longer than anyone thought. Opinions?

The show was also offering $31 dollar tickets all over the theater this weekend to fill the room, so the audience was probably heavy on the super-fans who bought cheap tickets

Going on the cheap in a few weeks. And for some reason, with everything else I have tickets for ( Including Hamilton). This is the one I am. Most excited about.

They were only offered for the past weekend. Halloween is a notoriously slow night on Broadway and many shows offered deep discounts.

No cult show here.

"Enthusiasm... how detestable."

If "enthusiasm" means blocking others' view and making enough noise to drown out lyrics, dialogue, or music, I think some would be justified in calling it detestable. But if "enthusiasm" means enjoying a show while remembering that you're sharing the space and experience with others, then I'm fine. But I think that I'd rather notice the show more than the audience.

If they're applauding after every number, I doubt if they're ruining the show for everyone, as I imagine most if not all, the audience is also applauding. How is that drowning out lyrics, dialogue, or music?

Reading the entire thread, you will find these answers:

A cult following is RENT, where actors noticed some patrons over 30 times. A cult following is not Something Rotten. You don't have hordes of people swallowing the the box office.
