If you want to talk about getting screwed... you could say August Wilson was. While he was often nominated, he only won one award and it was for Fences, which isn't even his best work. (It is pretty damn good though). Unlike SS, Wilson went 1 for 8.

Personally, I feel he been over-honored by the Tony's. As far as I'm concerned, they got everything right, tonight.

After all these posts, how can you still say he has been snubbed?

I didn't say that Sondheim himself was snubbed, but Sweeney Todd is still his work even if his name didn't appear on the ballot.

I predict Sondheim will go home empty-handed for the Company revival. Marguerite: He's got to write a new score to be eligible, unless they revive Getting Away with Murder HAHAHAHAHA

Let's hope the same thing does happen to COMPANY. Then, perhaps people will leave that dreary, non-melodic Sondheim alone. I mean, seriously, where's the f'ing melody, Steve?

For the record, next season is the revival season: Les Miserables, Chorus Line, etc. So don't be surprised if Company doesn't win next year. Just warning you now.

But I am devastated over "Sweeney" in nearly every single category that it lost. UGH. i actually sat in that theatre tonight and cringed for the entire last hour and a half.

It's actually kind of funny...a man walked by me as I was waiting to meet friends after we got out of Radio City tonight, and by his badge it was obvious that he was somehow internally involved with the awards. So, he briefly struck up a
conversation and I couldn't help asking..."Are you a Tony Voter?" and he asked why I would ask such a thing and I replied with "Because if you are, we have some things to discuss, like why "Sweeney" was raped..." and he just started laughing and said "I have a feeling you're not the only one who has a problem with that".

As Margo Channing has pointed out, Sondheim is the winningest composer in the history of the Tonys, so it's hard to say he's been 'screwed.' In case, anyone forgot, his production of 'Assassins' won Best Revival 2 seasons ago; in fact, it won more Tonys than any other production that year, and still closed only a month after the Tonys (!).
