I was wondering about what else was going to be put in for Leslie Kritzer. Saw it two Sundays ago before the changes went in last week. Hope she gets a nice big number.
I loved it and can't wait when the show is frozen. A poster above made a great point about how songs took on a different meaning and weight after hearing Sondheim's personal story, with which, admittedly, I was not familiar.
I'd listen to Barbara Cook any day and twice on Sunday over many other singers 50-60 years younger than she. She was exquisite.

Reliable source claims that they're putting in "Me & My Town" for Kritzer.
That reliable source is unreliable. They're putting in a much better song for her.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 4:57pmSince its length isn't a problem for me ... if I had one dream request, it would be to give Miss Cook "Stay With Me" from WOODS. One of Sondheim's simplest but most soul-bearing songs. Its maternal heartbreak just seems so right for her, and to me, it's still the defining lyric of that show's theme.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 5:03pmPlease tell me that the production doesn't actually refer to them as mash-ups and this is just Gleecabulary on part of our posters?

Posted: 4/6/10 at 8:54pmAs of tonight, Kritzer sings "Now You Know" from MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I told you it wasn't "Me and My Town," newintown.
Your reliable source must make things up.

Now You Know? Good for Kritzer. It's a terrific song!
I really hope this turns into an open-ended run, rather than limited. I won't be able to get to the city until July, at the earliest.

Posted: 4/6/10 at 10:25pmWow, they're REALLY heavily featuring MERRILY in this show, I'd say more than any of his others musicals.

Posted: 4/6/10 at 10:30pmIt's probably one of the most autobiographical, as he himself admits (somewhat) in the "Opening Doors" sequence, so it makes sense that they'd pull a lot from it.

And Roundabout is almost certainly doing it next season so they want to try out as much as they can.
"Now you know" is a perfect song for Kritzer!

They feature Merrily and Follies heavily, which delights me.
Follies is the show that made me who I am, and Merrily has some of my all-time favorite lyrics. I can't wait to hear Leslie sing
I mean, socks have holes.
I mean, roads have bumps,
They make meatheads champs and nice guys chumps.
I mean, even Cream of Wheat has lumps.
And I hope they have her sing the words that Ann Morrison made so memorable even though it's just a throwaway: "Over here, hello!"

"I mean, socks have holes.

Those lyrics are not in the revised (licensed) version though. I prefer the re-write. I wonder what they will use?

All right, now I know!

Posted: 4/7/10 at 4:01amHas anything been added from Pacific Overtures? I enjoy the songs from Merrily so I'm glad there's more from that show, but I'd still like a nod to Pacific Overtures.
