Hard Candy may have sucked, but Confessions on a Dance Floor was a masterpiece, and let's not forget that Hung Up has the record for being #1 in the most countries (45 if I'm not mistaken) but it only made it to #7 in America.
Long live the queen!

Yeah, but how many of those foreign language speaking countries just thought it was a cover of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" by Abba?

Posted: 1/2/10 at 5:21pmWell ABBA has only let 2 artists sample their songs...EVER. They deny everyone else. Quite a compliment.

I think a bigger compliment would be the fact that she is the only performer to have a song specifically written for her by both Andrew Lloyd Webber ("You Must Love Me") and Sondheim ("Sooner Or Later").
And while I get your point, I am old enough to remember the A*Teens and their 3 or 3 entire ALBUMS of Abba-approved covers.

Before the A Teens there was Erasure's Abba-licious. And then there was Priscilla Queen of the Desert. And then there was Muriel's Wedding. And then Mamma Mia. Madonna was so far behind the curve on that, no further evidence will ever be required to reveal just how square she is.
"Confessions on a Dance Floor was a masterpiece." Yeah, but no.

Are the A*Teens the other performer besides Madonna who Abba granted the rights to cover their songs that you were referring to?
Or is there some other artist or group, additionally?

Posted: 1/2/10 at 9:54pmIs it me or does that seem like a lot of songs for them to sing in one episode?

Posted: 1/3/10 at 1:08amThe Fugees were allowed to sample "The Name of the Game" on their song, "Rumble in the Jungle." Priscilla Queen of the Desert just uses the song Mamma Mia. I don't think listing movies that cover ABBA songs before Madonna's Hung Up proves her to be square. If you think she is square that's fine, but that hardly proves it.

Posted: 1/3/10 at 1:18amTONS of people have covered Abba. Apparently, the bragging rights Madonna can claim is that she was, allegedly, the second performer allowed a precious Abba sample. I know, whoop-dee-doo.
