Hey everyone - I'm looking for theater songs that have something to do with Miami, or Florida, or just give the beach-y feel. It's for a blog title that has to do with South Florida theater, and I was hoping for something catchy from a song lyric or title. Any ideas/suggestions?
There's a Jule Styne/Bob Merrell song in SUGAR called "Sun on My Face." I happened to listen to it the other day and I can't say it's a great song, but it is about traveling to Miami from Chicago.
But I pray I'm sent to my favorite place
Orlando
I love you, Orlando
Sea World
and Disney
and Putt-Putt Golfing!

Funny, you're the third person to mention that song to me today. Is there any particular line in the song that stands out? I can't, for the life of me, find lyrics online, and since I'm at work without speakers, I can't hear the song either!

@TalkinLoud - LOL! I love it, but my blog is about "SOUTH" South Florida. Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach. Also, it should be short and catchy. Like, one line. I know I'm being way picky!

I have to say what I feel
Miami has so much appeal
A great place to get a seafood meal
Miami
Miami, Miami you’ve got style
Blue skies, sunshine, white sand by the mile
When you live in this town, each day is sublime
The coldest of winters, are warm and divine
Miami, Miami, you’ve got style
Blue skies, sunshine, white sand by the mile
There’s ball clubs and night clubs all within reach
Dance the Samba till morning then lie on the beach
Each view is a postcard, each day a great time
It's the cream of the crop, it’s the top of the line
Miami, Miami you’ve got style
Blue skies, sunshine, white sand by the mile.
Miami, you’ve got style

Surely Sondheim's BOUNCE/ROADSHOW has a song or two about Boca Raton.
Miami's got a lot of Cuban roots, and the song "Havana," from the upcoming musical of the same name (but already recorded by Linda Eder), always puts me in a beach-y mood.
"Tropic days turn into steamy nights
Stateside ways give in to appetites
Panatelas under white straw hats
Sit and soak...Rum and Coke
Cuban rhythms push the night along
Past the limits of what's right or wrong
Hardly anyone is keepin' score
Let it ride...Por favor"
My first thought was also the Golden Girls song!!

My first thought was that Golden Girls episode too! And I KNEW that on this message board it'd be posted in some form pretty much instantly! I only clicked on this thread to see how quickly the reference would appear!
Edit: Nevermind, couldn't find the other one I was looking for. (Earlier on in the episode, Dorothy and Rose singing and Blanche going "Girls... Girls! GIRRRRRLS!!")

AS SOON AS I SAW THIS POST I THOUGHT OF DOROTHY AND ROSE IN THE SONG WRITING COMPETITION!!!!
M-I-A-M-I doesn't spell Miami Beach, it only spells Miami.
What about PENSACOLA from DAMES AT SEA?
Great song, but he's looking for South Florida. Pensacola to Miami is farther than New York City to Detroit.
"Miami" from Mr Wonderful
There's also the song "Florida" from The Gershwin's Tip-Toes
