re: Sound of Music To Close

They were told it would probably close on Jan 10th, I guess they've just given it another few weeks. has anyone seen the new artwork for the show with Maria and the kids sitting in the window etc! Looks like an ad for Dulux wallpaper!
It wont be long before the Palladium is alive with the sound of singing nuns again anyway, all be it not the Rogers and Hammerstein kind!!

re: Sound of Music To Close

Yes, and I hear Sharon D Clarke is a distinct possibility- now that makes me a little more interested to see the show!

re: Sound of Music To Close

There's been a lot of people on the production team leaving recently before all the major announcements are made at the end of October.

re: Sound of Music To Close

Yeah- I know someone who has left the project. I do think that this show should have followed Dirty Dancing's examply by selling out a modest capacity house, rather than rattling around- as I fear it will- in the Palladium.

re: Sound of Music To Close

I'm happy to go with this show as it appeals to me far more than the 3 'F's do BUT the Palladium!!!

re: Sound of Music To Close

it isn't the greatest production you'll see of it. Its been running nearly 2 years now and is struggling to find decent houses and it's time for it to go.
If you can get in cheap, go, you'll enjoy it.

re: Sound of Music To Close

It's not the best production, but it is a good one, and I adore Summer as Maria, SOOOO much better than Connie ever was, It is deffinatley worth a see, but dont bend over backwards to go and dont pay a fortune for a ticket!

Its a solid, good night in the theatre.
Both times I saw it it had really good sets of kids but the captain stank.

re: Sound of Music To Close

It's actually posted notice, or it's just not extending beyond the 28th? Could that possibly explain why we haven't heard anything at work? We've heard nothing about a Joseph extension either, and their BP ends in January. What with Christmas coming, that's cutting it super fine. Grrrr.

re: Sound of Music To Close

Yep its supposed to have gone back in July originally then t was end of October. They've just fishing around for a decent replacement- lol and they come up with 'Sister Act-The Musical'. Same with 'Joseph' as LP says.

re: Sound of Music To Close

Is Simon Burke still playing the Captain?

re: Sound of Music To Close

Simon McCorkindale is the current Captain I believe.

re: Sound of Music To Close

It wasn't that long ago that Barnum was supposd to be taking over with John Barrowman. Did it really get scuppered by rows?

Like a dog with a bone (take that how you will)...

Where and when did SOM post its notice? I'd say it's pretty safe to assume SOM and Joseph won't be extending any further but no announcement has been made.

PS: Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about Barnum at the Palladium. I suppose he was just far too busy irritating Lovepigeon via the magical medium of television.

re: Sound of Music To Close

there was comments on another forum couple weeks back that SOM had been given its notice but no nothing official as yet.

I actually loved this production of Sound of Music personally.

Sister Act is apparantly lined up next, and they are (again, all rumour) meant to be looking at giving reasonable ticket prices (nearer the £50-£55 bracket). Without the music from the film, and talk of story and setting changes from the film im not sure Sister Act is going to fill the Palladium.

It wont! mark my words, it wont!

re: Sound of Music To Close

I just can't believe Sister Act is ACTUALLY going ahead...although if it has an original score I suppose it might be ok. Still, it's pissing on a picasso! Sister Act is great as it is, leave it be! (Hmm Rent Remixed flashbacks...)

Also, weren't there rumors of a Sound of Music tour a while back? Any news? I enjoyed this production and would be great to see it again. Only managed to catch it once with Connie back in Summer 2007, would love, love, LOVE to see Summer!

I agree with Mama that Sister Act wont open, to big a venue for it.

I would like to ses Sound of Music before it closes too, first time I saw this show and this was only in the beginning of the year, thought it was pretty sound though. The head nun was amazing!!!!!!

re: Sound of Music To Close

I heard a bizarre story that Me and My Girl was heading for the Palladium after SOM. Anyone else?
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

London closes February, UK tour next summer.

re: Sound of Music To Close

The Me and My Girl thing is a chairty event where they learn the show and put it on all in 24 or 48 hours. My mate is doing it and I believe that is what the deal is. Its certainly not a fully blown production as far as I'm aware.
