I know they’re cast recordings. I thought the intentional error would spark more involvement.
There’s a few shows that come to mind that were short lived on the stage, but due to their cast recording remained in the public eye.
It probably is a result of there being fewer ways to ensure a legacy between when those productions happened versus now. There might’ve been a Reddit thread about this that I thought was on these message boards, but couldn’t find it.

I'm sure Lempicka will grow to join those ranks. Be More Chill also only really got big from the cast recording. I know it was successful in the West End but Chess flopped on Broadway and I'd say that most of the interest in it today still stems from the original concept album.
"The Story of My Life" is one of my favorites. I love the score and still listen to it all the way through a few times a year.
The Original Cast Recording of "A Class Act" is also a favorite.

I still listen to Sing Street.
Women on the Verge of a Nervous breakdown! One of my favorite ever cast albums but the show itself is a mess and had a troubled original Broadway production. Free of that the score shines and has (imo) become a modern cult classic

I second "Women on the Verge...". I enjoy the score and play it through from time to time. Yes, the show was messy and a bit chaotic, but I felt it was representative of women on the verge of having a nervous breakdown. The show is no classic work of art but I still find the score better than the show itself.
