Posted: 3/2/08 at 3:52pmCan't wait to see this on the 5th. Sounds like it's in good shape. Looking forward to the sets/lighting, performances, orchestra and yes, the hunky men. I don't know why people knock something because it doesn't have the same relevance now as it did then. It's like watching any old classic movie...yes, the times have changed, but you are watching it as a moment in time and appreciating its historical significance. Should we not enjoy a classic film like "Gone With The Wind" because we are no longer living in the times of civil war/slavery? We can look to the past to see how far we have come and how far we need to go. We can also take the THEMES and relate them to today. Like someone else said, discrimination and racism is still very much alive in many different forms.

Posted: 3/2/08 at 4:55pmI directed a production of "South Pacific" with a thirty piece orchestra (actually 33, I got the program out and counted) in 1976. You haven't LIVED until you hear that orchestration the way it was meant to be played, with a dozen strings and six brass (and we had twin basses/tubas) and a harp. The opening chords, echoing "Bali Ha'i" over and over involve every instrument in the band and it's a massive wall of sound that that hasn't been rivalled since.

I am delighted to see that Laura Marie Duncan is covering Nellie. She was an absolutely fantastic Christine in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS.
It is also good to see the always-wonderful Lisa Howard covering Bloody Mary.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 8:15amI am soooooo anxious and stressed about finding good last minute tickets in April !!! I couldn't find anything center so I decided to wait !! As a last resort I'd pay premium tix to see Matt on stage again, but there aren't any !!! My other big fear, is getting good tix and getting an understudy for Cable ! I'll collapse right there if I am that unlucky !!!

Why not just stay home? If allyou really care about is seeing Matt, it's an insult even to him. You're obviously not mature enough to attend adult theatre. This is not a show for shreiking teenagers.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 10:21amApart from Laura Marie and Lisa, I thought Andrew Samonsky was great in tick tick BOOM in LA and loved Garrett Long in Bernice Bobs Her Mullet, so I think I'd be pretty pleased with any understudies I saw in South Pacific. :)

"Carefully Taught" is an up-tempo, and Streisand just slowed it down to mix better with "Children Will Listen."
Personally, I like it slower.
Side Note:
Since when is Garrett a unisex name?

Tom, I'll let this one pass, just because you are a newbie here ! I am waaaaaaaaaay more mature than you can even imagine and I wish I was a teenager, but that was quite long ago ! I've earned the right to have many friends here who can understand what I say and especially how I say it ! I'm not gonna explain myself to you, because I don't know you and don't care about you ! I do agree, it's not a show for teenagers. But it is neither for IDIOTS!
But if you ever DARE to insult me again and tell me what to do, I promise I'll answer ! And trust me, it's gonna be in the same obnoxious, rude and ignorant spirit as yours ! Get it ?? Now GET LOST !
And I apologise to the other posters about my tone, but this uncalled for attack made me more angry than I've ever been here!!!
Gee, I finally didn't let it pass, right ? But If I had written all that I wanted to say to this guy, I'd be banned for life !

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:10pmKnowing Greekmusicalfan, I knew where he was coming from. How wonderful that he's excited about this show. I could also understand his anxiousness with regards to tickets as he's coming from overseas. The insult from Tom148502 was both unnecessary and absolutely ridiculous.

You said it Greek. It really bugs me to no end when somebody comes out of nowhere and is as rude as this Tom person. I know you well enough to know where you're coming from.
I have tickets for the show in the 100's section (all the way on the left side.) Does anybody know if the view would be obstructed at that angle?

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:23pmAgreed, Dottie! Shoot, I would feel the same as Greekmusicalfan, and I just live down in VA! I remember when I came to see Victor/Victoria, had purchased great seats in advance, and got to the theatre only to see that Julie was out. Sometimes I think it is a curse. Hope you enjoy the show (w/ Matthew!), Greekmusicalfan!

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:29pmThat's the magic of this board ! Right after being furious with that guy, my heart melts, because two of my most beloved friends and an objective and open-minded sweet guy, understand me and support me ! Thank you so much guys, bless you !

LizzieCurry - That's no excuse for bad behavior... and I
just looked at Tom148502's profile list of show recordings & nearly fell to the floor laughing at the copied & redundent list. You all gotta see it - haha!

Lizzie, honesty is the best policy, agreed ! But stupid assumptions and unprovoked attacks, to a tongue in cheek post, of a frequent poster, are not the best policy ! For me anyway !
Just saw this list, jeff, thank you for that ! I retract everything I said, the guy is obviously VERY troubled !

*cough* Back on-topic please? Maybe? *ahem*
Yes, Garrett is a female in the ensemble (I believe she's the one who does ballet point-shoe during the Thanksgiving Follies). I'm kind of entertained by her new-unisex name style. I'm a fan.
And thanks for the clarification on "You Have To Taught." Yes, I'd far far far much prefer it to be slowed down (in an already long-musical) if only to make the point be driven home. I mean, it's essentially the Aesop-Fable moment of the entire show!

Posted: 3/3/08 at 1:07pmI am so excited to see this revival (and can't wait to find out about the surprise during the overture). I am bothered, however, that we have to see "naked men butts" ... that's just so cheap, tacky and unnecessary. Its R&H, do we really have to see naked butts? Whats next? A production of Sound of Music where we see Leisl changing out of her wet clothes to reveal her breasts before she puts on her dressing gown? Hardly a prude here, but just think any kind of nudity in any R&H show is gratuitous and unnecessary.

I would not call it an "Aesop Fable" because it's theme isn't cloaked at all.
And while I like Garrett Long (she was one of the few redeeming features on the 'Spitfire Grill' cast recording), it *always* throws me.
