Not a fan of the show myself but its great to see so many top quality shows touring, after a few years of not much to get excited over now we have Hairspray, Spamalot, Les Miserables, WWRY and Sound of Music.
Although I see its only a week in Wimbledon, last time it was doing longer sit downs for 3 weeks or so.
Spamalot is wiiiiise to only play a week in Wimbledon. ATG pretty much force producers at gunpoint to go there if they want to play various other ATG houses; it's too close to the West End so everyone local has already seen everything, and the blue rinse brigade is unlikely to turn out for a show like this.
Anyone know who's producing? Let's all hope it's not UK Productions...
Princeton I agree with you, I do not know what the fuss is about with Spamalot, its alright, no better than that
Has Spamalot announced any other venues, apart from Wimbledon?
I mentioned the same thing on the Whistle Down the Wind thread, why don't producers announce there show tour all at once, with all the dates and all the venues together, I think the presentation of leaking one venue at once is awful way to publicise their tour?
To my knowledge the Whistle down the Wind tour on Kenwright's website is still not complete with venues missing.
2 weeks was the original booking pattern for the tour although 1 week doesn't mean it will be that scaled down, it wasn't that laden with scenery in the first place. I see someone like Peter Davidson probably going back to it to tour.
The Spanish production is now in it's second year in Madrid and is selling out most weekends still. It opened in Barcelona and moved to Madrid this summer. I'll be seeing this production for the 2nd time this coming Saturday.
Glad this is getting a tour life, quite enjoyed it though not sure I'd see it again.
I think in some places it could last a few weeks here in Cardiff I think-big student population would probably see it through a few weeks, but no can't see the 'blue rinse brigade' turning out in their droves. That said my mother liked it and she hates Python!
Maybe I'm on nobody's side

Aside from Life of Brian I generally don't find Monty Python funny at all - I usually just find them unbearably smug. I enjoyed Spamalot when it wasn't trying to be a Monty Python tribute show and just lifting scenes from the films and TV shows - I loved the Lady of the Lake character, and I thought Sanjeev Bhaskar's ad libs, while not exactly inspired, at least made it less Python-esque which for me was a good thing.
I do seem to remember that his understudy/alternate wasn't exactly out of practice. You didn't exactly miss much with Sanjeev, but he was fun and worked very well with the actor playing Patsy, who ironically completely stole the show from him.
Think Spamalot was over-hyped, was not too impressed when I saw this at the Shubert, but enjoyed it more the second time at The Palace, a lot better than that green mess that is playing the Apollo Victoria.
The Wimbledon Theatre isn't small at all so I imagine it will be similar in size to the West End with changes to make it tourable plus changes in dialogues.
I agree it does need a name of sorts to place Arthur which is what killed The Producers UK tour.
Wasn't Sanjeev the alternate? I missed seeing him twice and he was the only Arthur I didn't see. The understudy was great but I do feel sorry for the people who went to see Sanjeev.
I do hope the tour comes together this time. I really wouldn't mind a no star cast but they shouldn't skimp on the set.
They do a need s star name i think, the Producers did amazing when it was playing in Manchester for 3 months because it had Peter Kay in, once Kay left the show begun to slide (which is a shame because Corey playing Max was outstanding)
I thought Spamalot was a riot, so much fun, great writing and some great numbers. If anyone would ever take Wicked over Spamalot (who is not a 14 year old girl) i would be shocked
