I too have EVITA with Paloma San Basilio. She's awesome! Her speech from the Casa Rosada gives me chills. You can almost imagine the real Eva. The translation is pretty good, but the Castillian accents and phrases are a little getting used to.
Spanish is also my first language. However, I came to the States when I was 8, so my English is better. But I can understand it, for the most part. It's conversing that's hard, trying to find the right words.
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

Posted: 1/30/08 at 4:59amHaving plotted out Spanish lessons in the past and getting tips, I have been told to avoid any mass-media (CDs, TV, movies etc) from Mexico, Cuba & Chile due to the slangy-ness of their Spanish. The best picks I have been told are Columbians since they are suppose to have the best speaking Spanish. So the question is, is their any Columbian Cast recordings around?

If youre a student... you can apply for a library card at Institito Cervantes in NYC. They have all types of cast recordings in all Spanish speaking countries..and yes..they will mail you the CD but of course you have to mail it back..
I have been there several times and I have borrowed materials from them for my Spanish Class...there's one in NYC, Chicago, Santa Fe...and I took my DELE exam in NYC too (Diploma de Espanol como La Lengua Extrangera) - its like TOEFL but just in Spanish... Dont ask me as to why I took it? I guess .. I was bored..and I am soo MAME ! (Open a New Window) lol!
This is a good resource center for Spanish Recordings for any Shows and yes they do have a lot of plays too...in Spanish..por supuesto...
This is like Alliance Francaise (French) and Goethe Institut (German) ...

Husk,
I found quite a few of my Spanish cast recordings as London's dresscircle.com and a few others at amazon.co.uk. Definitely check out dresscircle (search for "spanish" or "spanish cast"). Let me look through mine and see if I can recall which ones came from where. I known you mentioned you looked at Footlight. If you like the Disney animated film soundtracks (Little Mermaid, Lion King, Hunchback, etc.), Footlight has the Spanish version of almost all of those.

Those Spanish language CDs I obtained quite some time ago -- thru eBay and Footlight. I believe they are all now out-of-print, so it'll be quite difficult to find them easily. eBay seems to be the best source at this point.
NOTE: jaystarr -- its WEST SIDE STORY (not THE WEST SIDE STORY).

I own several Spanish cast recordings in different formats and one of them is Gypsy the Mexican cast with Sylvia Pinal and Alejandra Guzman. The translation isquite good.
Spanish Cast Recordings are rare and quite difficult to find, and when you do, they tend to be expensive. They also go out of print quickly. I'm willing to trade.

Ooh, this thread reminded me of my phase of finding songs in Spanish. Since I live in Miami, we have a bunch of little mom-and-pop record stores, and that's where I found a bunch of Spanish recordings. My favorites- Jesucristo Superstar, Evita, El Fantasma de la Opera. And you can't forget ABBA Oro! All your favorite ABBA songs in Spanish, sung by ABBA, not the Mamma Mia cast. lol
And I have a bunch of Disney songs in Spanish too. I'm obsessed with translations.

If there is anyone on here that know people in Spain (or live in Spain yourself), can you help me? Dagoll Dagom has just released "Boscos Endins" (Sondheim's "Into the Woods" in Catalan) via their website boutique, but they only sell and ship to Spain and Andorra. I would do *almost* anything to get this recording. I've e-mailed Footlight already, and they said they'd try to get it in, but to not keep my hopes up.
If anyone can help a guy out, send me a PM, PLEASE! (I hate to beg, but I don't have too much choice...) ![]()

Regarding the Mexican Cast Recording of GYPSY with Silvia Pinal and Alejandra Guzman:
Alejandra begins her final Gypsy strip with a vampy/slow version of "You'll Never Get Away from Me" which then blends into "Let Me Entertain You". Kind of an interesting twist to the strip.

'When Harry Met Sally' Madrid cast recording.
'The Full Monty' Performed in Barcelona and the cast recording is in Catalan!!!
'Grease' The current production that just closed in Barcelona and is about to move to Madrid. Theres also a 'Making Of... DVD' to this production.
'Seven Brides For Seven Brothers' Production from 3 years ago.

My FAVOURITE spanish recording is Jekyll & Hyde! It's much different from any version of Jekyll & Hyde you'd be familiar with, but Raphael (Jekyll/Hyde) and Marta Ribera (Lucy) are both fantastic, and it's kind of interesting to hear the orchestrations...there not different but they sound different? Especially Disfraz (Facade). It is though a highlights recording.
Agreed with EVITA. Also Los Miserables is pretty good.
But I really recommend the Jekyll one...if you can find it! Searching on ebay is always good for the rarer Spanish ones like EVITA and Jekyll & HYDE..they're always popping up.

Tengo un CD de Les Miserables de Madrid y me lo gusta. Tambien, si tu sabes las palabras antes de escuchas, es mas facil para comprender.
Yo lo recomiendo.
