Also keep in mind that SA has 19 and 20 year olds playing 14 year olds. So they're not exactly age appropriate either.
The stage is very forgiving. With the distance and the lighting and the makeup age is not as exact, and almost every producer, director and casting team under the sun is going to go with the tried and true.
Um...I think they are casting older people in Spelling Bee on purpose! That's part of the fun of the show!
Hey, Little Mermaid cast Ariel as a very young unknown. Celia can definitely pull off a teenager. Hell, Kerry Butler's made a career out of it.
I didn't even know what this was before today. And I will now buy tickets every day it runs. I love Celia!!!

That's great casting. I think this show will actually has a lot of potential!

That's great casting. If Laura Bell Bundy wasn't doing Legally Blonde she'd make a totally awesome Hilary Faye. Or Megan Hilty would.
Keenan-Bolger is pretty close to perfect casting.
I'd like to see them get Annaleigh Ashford (currently playing one of the Greek Chorus members in "Legally Blonde" but most impressive in "Feeling Electric") as Hilary Faye.
Annaleigh or Laura would be great as Hilary Faye.
Celia in this is PERFECT casting, assuming she's playing the Jena Malone role.
Her little bro Andrew could play:
"Boy in wheelchair"
Great casting! Should probably save this for the original thread announcing its premiere, but I adore this movie, and think it'll be a great musical! And it's even better that Playwright Horizons is producing it, so not every single decision will be commercial (hopefully).
Any other suggestions for the casting of Hilary Faye? What about the Jewish friend? The Jewel wanna-be?
Krysta Rodriguez (of "Spring Awakening") or Jenna Leigh Green could both be interesting as Cassandra (the Jewish friend and love interest for Rolland, Hilary Faye's brother.)
Besides the aformentioned Ashford, I could see Kate Reinders or Jenn Gambatese in the Hilary Faye role.
I'm glad they're keeping this girl busy.
Kate Reinders would be a hilarious Hilary Faye. But she'd probly play it like Glinda, sweet and funny then PSYCHOTIC when she doesn't get her way, kinda like Hilary Faye.
Personally I'd prefer someone a little taller to play her. No offense to any other girls, since most of the choices people want are short, LOL.
Anyone but Kate Reinders please. Her Glinda was grating (and no, I am not saying this because I am a Chenoweth fan).
I rented this yesterday, and it has to be one of my new favorite films. It made me respect Mandy Moore much more, too. I can't wait for the musical.
If Krysta were to do this, I know a lot of people who would want tickets. She would be a good choice for that role.

Here's a thought...Could they cast Mandy Moore?
