VIVA FOREVER is such a stupid title.
I love this idea(keep title to Spice Girls The Musical), very much a fan of theirs.
WHY???
To be honest if any modern band should have a Jukbox musical its the Spice Girls. Their songs are instantly recognizable and they are very popular.
Should be good with the right people behind it.
I'm excited for this too. I was a huge fan of theirs. Not a fan of the title either though. I'm curious to see how this comes along though. Shall be...fun?
Oh come on, just say you'll be there.
But in all seriousness, I used to love the Spice Girls. Though I'm sure it won't win any big awards, this is something I could certainly enjoy.
Oh, and I actually love the title. Though I have expected it to be Spice Up Your Life.

The title I don't like so much. But I'm pretty excited.
Well apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this will be fun. And here I thought I was going to be the sole person who was going announce he was excited...

what, the backstreet boys were unavailable?
bad idea...
Ok, so I enjoy their music, and I think this could be horribly fantastic. That said, I enjoyed the Mamma Mia! movie, so I like peppy pop music. lol.
This seems like it can/will only be a success in the UK.
Most Americans don't even remember who the Spice Girls are and they haven't really entered the lexicon the way they have in the UK. Most people remember Meat Loaf the most from the movie, to boot. I don't see this working in the US at all, if it ever makes it that far.
P
...didn't they just have a sold-out "reunion tour" in the U.S.?
Wait, are the actual Spice Girls going to be IN the show? Or is it about their backstory with other actors playing them? Two completely different things.
If they are all actually in it (which seems VERY unlikely), then it will have slightly better prospects in the US, but not much.

They're not going to be in it, but saying that "most Americans don't even remember who the Spice Girls are" is a little bit ridiculous considering they just had a tour here (three international dates withstanding) that grossed over $70 million.

Most Americans don't know who Steps are (my favorite UK pop band). Most Americans do remember Spice Girls. They weren't as huge in the US as the UK, but they were big here. Sold out tours, dolls, Spice World, etc. I wasn't a big fan of Spice Girls, except for Wannabe, so I'm not too interested in this musical. I'm not convinced it would automatically do well even with a big name. Very few jukebox musicals are hits. And I don't think Spice Girls have been around long enough to sustain a long enough run on Broadway to generate a huge hit. It will probably fare better in the West End where the Spice Girls were not only more popular, but jukebox musicals are generally more popular in the UK than the US. They've had their share of flops as well (Our House, Tonight's the Night, Daddy Cool, Desperately Seeking Susan, Never Forget), but the UK seems to have a bigger audience for them than we do (Buddy, The Rat Pack, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, Dirty Dancing, Thriller Live).
Go into any karaoke bar in America and tell me that Americans don't remember the Spice Girls.
True- they just don't remember how to sing their songs on pitch.
Does "slam your body down and zig-a-zig ah" really require a pitch?
Mister Matt, I love Steps! Tragedy was pretty much one of my favorite songs back in the day. I'm embarrassed to admit I still do the hands in the air thing (from the music video) every time they hit the chorus. I am also quite partial to One For Sorrow and (though it's so silly) 5,6,7,8.
5,6,7,8 and One for Sorrow were the two songs that got me hooked on Steps! I prefer the original version of One For Sorrow over the US remix and 5,6,7,8 is so delightfully SILLY. Plus I gave them kudos for the cover of Sunscreem's Love U More. My first trip to London, one of my roommates told me about Steps. I had to go to Germany for a couple of months and only had an old cassette Walkman, so I bought their first album on cassette and listened to it constantly. On my next trip to London, they had just released their second album. Their cover of Tragedy (hands up by your head!) was already a hit and Love's Got a Hold of My Heart was their newest big single being played everywhere. My personal fave is Say You'll Be Mine. It's sort of my theme song. And If You Believe is a gorgeous ballad (co-written by Cyndi Lauper). I got all their CDs (US and UK releases), singles and DVDs. There is just something about the quality of their voices that really got me (I prefer the male-female blend to all-male or all-female groups) and their style was just so infectious. They have a few real stinkers (mostly in the male-led material), but I can overlook those and just skip to the good stuff. OH, and they're pretty easy on the eyes (Deeper Shade of Blue is still one of my favorite music videos). Every time I listen to Steps, I'm instantly transported back to Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus.
