I don't think there is a direct relationship between ticket sales and the actor injury, and I don't like how this article tries to imply that. I haven't seen the show, but judging from how bad many claim it to be, why even bother mentioning the actor injury in the article in addition to the lower ticket sales?

The attempt to create a causal link is so Fox News. It might as well have said, "You do the math". And remember back when people were saying ticket sales went UP after actor injuries because of the public's morbid curiosity and bloodlust? Was there a massive shift in the morality of Broadway theatregoers or does this represent the presence of a new Broadway audience? I think it was that sneaky Rebecca guy spamming the Ticketmaster database claiming that Spiderman's concessions are laced with ricin!

I think somebody has forgotten that correlation does not equal causation. The show's grosses have been slipping lower and lower for a few months now, and this past week only a handful of shows saw an improvement in their gross over the previous week, the overwhelming majority saw business drop a bit.

A holiday weekend is approaching. I think people are merely focused on other things not to mention that over time ticket sales do slow down. I don't think the drop in sales is related to the injury.

It's not. Which is why the article makes no mention of why potential ticket buyers would react to THIS injury over any of the previous injuries. This article sounds like FOX News and the show is at the FOXwoods Theatre. There must be a connection! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

Yeah I definitly rolled my eyes when I saw the title of that article. I agree that there isn't a correlation. Since the majority of the audience at Spider-Man consists of tourists, I doubt that many of them even were aware of the accident.

Ugh. Ridiculous. The show was once a "hot ticket". People at first clamored to see it out of morbid curiosity from all the press. After it was "revised" people still went, but I don't think it was as intriguing for people. I saw 2.0. It's theme park entertainment for the most part. And, I'm sorry, but for $70 million, that was one cheap looking set. I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I can say I saw it, but it just wasn't very good. It's ran for three years with less than stellar reviews. It's just not a big ticket anymore. Has nothing to do with the injury.

I only saw the first version and with exception to the first act finale, the set (and costumes and lighting) did indeed look very expensive.

The new version generally does feel tackier than the Taymor version. Even if it is slightly more coherent, it feels about as ambitious as a Six Flags stunt show in comparison to the textured acid fever dream that Taymor had.

Oh, the first version was pretty darn tacky (especially the second act), but that doesn't mean it was cheap. Just look at anything related to Trump.

I had the good fortune of seeing, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark, several times while Julie Taymor was at the helm and once since the "re-imagined" version opened. Julie Taymor, although way behind an acceptable production schedule, was moving towards an amazing show. I don't condone the fact that the show was way into performances - previews - and far from performance ready.

Having typed that, I do believe that if she had been left to finish her vision, the show that would be running now would have been far more exciting than the one that is currently playing. I found the "re-imagined" version dull and a huge step back.

There were some moments that were visually stunning, but others looked tacky. The lockers in the school hall looked like something taken out of community theatre production of Grease. I guess I have just seen shows that cost a lot less to produce and looked a lot better.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I wonder if the show would even be running now at all. Her vision was thoroughly misguided, and did not connect at all with audiences. The revised version is an improvement, but the material is just plain bad.

I always find it interesting that people are quick to jump on Taymor, but I think one of the shows biggest flaws is that dull, boring, and I use the word lightly "score" that was written by these two dickheads from U2
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

ART...I disagree. V1 in my opinion was a big WTF and not sure how she could have bailed it out. She wasn't moving with a sense of urgency nor did she seem inclined to bend. She couldn't overcome pride of authorship.

The general tourist audience clamouring to see what the hype was want the spectacle and the storyline that doesn't need to be read ahead of time like an operatic summary in the Playbill.

Agreed, rosscoe. The lion's share of the blame HAS to be placed on Bono and "The Edge," (I'm sorry, I can't call a grown man by that name without quotes), who weren't thrown under the bus because they are famous men. Their score is just as incoherent as anything Taymor produced, plus uglier and more dim-witted.

One of the major problems the Spiderman's producers made was giving Taymor full control. If they had said stage "this origin story" rather than letting her create her own, it would have been a whole different ballgame. Also I agree much of the blame should also be placed on Bono and the Edge for not actually attending enough rehearsals and previews, since they were always on tour.

I did enjoy Spidey 1.0 due to its Taymor craziness, but I love the addition of "A Freak like Me" and the line "all the weirdos in the world are here in New York City tonight". That should seriously be used for a tourism commercial, along the lines of what Vegas does with encouraging people to visit and be sinful. New York could encourage people to come and embrace their inner weirdo, and keep New York a little more edgy. Not "Times Sq in the 70's" edgy, but edgier than the average American city.
