According to this, rehearsals start June 2009 - and the casting of Mary Jane and who may play Peter.

Posted: 12/10/08 at 4:06pmWow. You just made me so very happy. I have been a fan of Evan Rachel Wood since I saw her in Thirteen, a highly underrated film in my opinion. Oh boy this makes me pretty excited. I really can't imagine this being all that good. Something about Spidey breaking mid-fight to belt out a note or two that has me thinking twice. But still, I think there are some amazing things they could do with the material, especially the web-slinging/flying parts.

If you are referring to Marilyn Manson, I think they broke-up. Not sure...I let my subscription to US lapse!
But I agree, she definitely looks like a MJ. Hasn't she been on the radar for this for a while because of her ties to Taymor with ACROSS THE UNIVERSE? Jim Sturgess would be lovely if he confirms!

Posted: 12/10/08 at 4:57pmI don't know how I'd feel about this. I mean, if you go on that site and watch clips of ERW promoting Across the Universe, it's clear that she can sing, and I'd be more than happy to go see her on a Broadway stage. That said, she doesn't seem particularly Mary Jane-esque, whether they're going for something in the style of the movies or the comics. Who knows, though, she more than deserves a shot at the material.

oh lord i hope they broke up lol
but yeah, i am still very hesitant on this musical... it sounds too much like a cirque du soleil production rather than a musical
ugh

Posted: 12/10/08 at 5:11pmWhile I am hesitant too, I have always been a U2 fan (seen them live more times than I would like to admit), and am dying to hear what kind of a stage score Bono is going to give us. He has played with many styles, so I am being curiously optimistic.

Spiderman the Musical is just another Disney musical gone wrong until you add Taymor and U2/Bono. Then great possibilities!
Evan Rachel Wood. Fantastic.

I'm fascinated.
In any other production, with the out of control costs and excess (especially in this economy), I would be quite the naysayer, but honestly? I'm looking forward to this because I think it could be great.

She's been rumored for this for a while. I'm excited. She's great.
Anyone else think she would make a GREAT Eponine?

Ew.
I've long been a supporter of the idea of the 'Spider-Man' musical, and I still reckon it could turn out awesome, but... I have this semi-irrational dislike of ERW. Sorry. XD

Posted: 12/10/08 at 6:28pmi really think they should wait a while to put this together. wasn't it reported that it would cost almost a million dollars for production costs alone?

The Daily News said that the budget was $40 million and weekly production costs were estimated at $1 million a week.
But look at the source before you put any weight into the numbers.

"This should bring the show to the Broadway stage by early to mid 2010 I would assume."
The professionalism of that article can be wrapped up in the word assume. It's what separates news from gossip.

Wow, I'm so torn on this - I'm a huge fan of the three components I've heard about so far.... I loved ERW in Across the Universe and she was AMAZING in King of California opposite of Michael Douglas, I love Julie Taymore, and I'm an obsessive fan of U2, but that being said... a superhero musical... really?
I dunno, I suppose if any team can make it work they've certainly got the best shot at it, and maybe if they abstract some of it enough it could provide a really cool new evolution to the storyline but I'm pretty concerned this could be a big let down. We'll see!
