I predict the consensus will be for SpongeBob.

While I know both have their fans, I'd stay home if these were my only choices.

Do you want a cheesy musical or a good play with good actors that apparently hasn't been put on perfectly.

Or a joyous, creative, enthusiastic musical or an anemic production of a good play? We can ask loaded questions all day.

Love this response lol
anyway, Robbie, since they are both so different just choose by the genre. Do you want to see a play or a musical, something dramatic or fun, mature or childish, etc. Even if these were both equally incredibly put on they are so different that if you tried to choose by reviews/quality it would be pretty much meaningless because genre preference is more important in this choice since a well put on play versus a shoddy musical still might not be better for someone who likes musicals more and etc on literally all levels regarding these productions lol

Team Spongebob. It's silly and goofy and thin, but it's brilliantly designed and performed, and it's just a great time.
M. Butterfly is miscast, includes rewrites that lessen what was a great work, and is absolutely one of the ugliest, most misdirected physical productions I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through.
Or skip both and see School Girls, or The African Mean Girls Play downtown.

I vote for Spongebob Butterfiy, currently playing off-Broadway. Not to be confused with M. Squarepants although both are routinely available at TKTS.
