I had planned to see Spring Awakening in December however flight got cancelled due to weather. I am planning another trip in August/September and it seems that a new block of seats are available. Unfortunately the choices are Row A or Row N (1 vs 13). Any thoughts on whether I should see this or not and the seating recommendation would be most welcome. Is Row A too close?
I know it got excellent reviews, but to be honest, I am worried that it may be somewhat depressing.
I already have tickets to Curtains, Pirate Queen, Legally Blonde, and Mary Poppins. (Can you tell I like the "lighter" shows?). A few more slots still open (Les Miz, Xanadu, etc are possibilities, Chorus Line).
Thanks for your help.

I did not find the show to be depressing. The music is great. I saw it at the Atlantic and was in the 2nd row. Have not seen it on Broadway so not sure about the staging. But I would sit up close if I see it again.
I can't tell you if you should see it or not, but you should definitely avoid row A if you don't want to get spit on by Groff. He's... damp.
The show is moving, but not depressing.
Row 13 would be an amazing seat! Like the other poster said, you WILL get wet if you sit in the front row. Jonathon is quite the spitter. (But brilliant, nonetheless...)

Row A without a doubt. There are steps so the actors are level with you and it's such an intimate show, 13th row will feel really far away.
Row A!! It's so intimate and amazing to be that intimate. You'll have a great time even if you get an extra souvinier from Mr. Groff lol
I would go with row A but row N would not be bad either.
And the show is a bit depressing but it does have it's fair share of laughs. (Majority of them being in Act 1) It's a great show though.
If your sitting first row bring a poncho! Haha Jonathan is a spitter but it would be great to see it that close up.
Front row is excellent! I sat 3rd row center and I would've love to have been closer. Take those seats while you can!

I sat in A2, the seats were great. Jonathan does spit a lot but it doesn't get on you. There are a few steps (the stairs) between you and the actors. You get to talk to them too when they take their bows.
I sat in the front row and I thought they were spectacular seats! I would love to sit in the same seats again. And for the record, I did not get wet at all.
I sat front row and I loved it. I never got spit on either. I reccomend row A!
Groff spits like a madman. I sat in row M, and I could see perfectly.

I was in row P Thurs. night. I purposely sat so far back so I could get an entirely different perspective from the stage seating (which I have done twice). Row P was great! I think this show benefits from some distance...the way the lights are designed, the staging, etc.
One benefit to row A, perhaps...leg room!! The seats are a little tight at this theatre.
See it. It is incredible. I sat in the third row and it was perfect. Why not try for the onstage seating. I will do that next.
I am totally addicted to my cd. It is on in my apt 24/7.
Love the music. You need to see this show. I would have to say it is my favorite new musical.
If you miss Spring Awakening you will be totally ****ed. (Just quoting a song )
You also must see "Grey Gardens"

Don't sit in row A. I sat in row C and had the lead dude spit all over my eyes. I had just had lasik surgery too so it messed me up. now i'm blind and am suing broadway.
^Um ok.
So what seats did you end up choosing?
I chose Groff's seat. Stage left best view.

Sit in row A; bring an umbrella; and enjoy the best show on Broadway this year : )
The show is not so much depressing as it is powerful and moving.
I sat in the mez and it was amazing. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I would love to be that close to the stage. Go for it. It really doesn't matter. Either way, it will be good.
^Mezz sucks. Sorry, done it twice (well, 3 times if you include the Boxes) and I couldn't have felt more disconnected from the show... EVEN when I was in the front row center mezz.

^Someone I know who is VERY connected to the show and has seen it from all over says he thinks the mezz is best...you get the best overall perspective, the lighting on the floor, etc. Just passing that along...
As I said above, I think really close, or esp. on-stage, is amazing, but when I sat back in row P I was totally unprepared for how great it looked and sounded. Oddly, I felt more involved there than on-stage, frankly...
I just sat onstage yesterday and it was very fun, but I did notice that Groff was spitting all over the first row, so if that doesn't bother you than i guess that is fine. I still think seeing it at a distance is nice because you can see all the effects and I definetly felt more connected to the show from the mez. Both are fun but I prefer to be back more.
Well, first I decided to see Coram Boy instead of Spring Awakening (I guess I thought I was too old to appreciate SA). However, since Coram Boy just announced its closing, I opted for the Row A tickets at Spring Awakening. Thanks for everyone's help.

To see Coram Boy over Spring Awakening would have been one of the biggest mistakes you could have made.
Steve- Go see Grey Gardens!
