Posted: 8/11/08 at 4:11pmCould Spring Awakening move to a smaller theater? That way it will stay open and fill to compacity. Just a thought. At this point, when does it look like it will close?

I heard from a friend of mine who works for the Nederlander that it will move there. I dont know how true is it? I spoke to him when I revisited RENT.

The real test for SA will be the always difficult winter months...it will also be a tough time for a few other shows (LEGALLY BLONDE, AUGUST, XANADU, HAIRSPRAY, AVENUE Q among others) who have been doing well lately but might start to lose a lot of business once winter rolls around.
I think SA will close sometime in the winter or early spring.
And I doubt SA will switch theaters, especially with multiple previously announced productions on hold because of the lack of theaters.

Posted: 8/11/08 at 4:33pmIt's not exactly cheap to move a show into a different theater. It's an added expense, and iof producers don't feel the transfer will benefit them much, it is better to close than remain open.

Posted: 8/11/08 at 4:37pmWould they switch from a Jujamcyn theatre to a Nederlander theatre?

I don't see why they wouldn't.
But, I don't know if the show can afford to move. Also, keep in mind the fact that there are more shows who want Broadway homes then there are theatres to house all of them in.
I would think that there is a better chance of this show closing then it moving.

I agree. [tos] should have grabbed the CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE right away.
Bet they regret that move.
#9re: Spring Awakening Theater Switch
Posted: 8/11/08 at 6:58pmGLORY DAYS had already booked the Circle before [tos], and by the time GLORY DAYS began previews, tickets to [tos] at the Lyceum had already gone on sale, so there's nothing to regret. Booking the Circle was never an option for [tos].

Posted: 8/11/08 at 7:03pmThe Nederlander has more seats (according to IBDB) than the O'Neil so moving there wouldn't make much sense. In fact Spring Awakening moving period doesn't really make any sense.
