Congrats! I'm happy for them.

re: Spring Awakening Wins Grammy for Best Musical Show Album

Actually, SA's the only one of those that I've listened to. I don't think SA should have won, it's not a good CAST Album. It's a good album, but not a good representation of the show, just the music (which I think is what they were going for). What should have won?

It's a good album, but not a good representation of the show, just the music (which I think is what they were going for).

But I don't think it even shows off the music itself particularly well. Where's the energy? Where's the life? It's totally blah. It all sounds better live. The CD doesn't capture that rock quality well at all.
A work of art is an invitation to love.

True, I'm just saying that its produced more like regular album and only focuses on the music, not trying at all to incorporate the actual feel of the show.

What a disappointment.

GREY GARDENS was robbed.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Say what you will about the original "A Chorus Line" album being the best (which I can't disagree with), the revival one is well-produced. It has great energy, the orchestrations are alive and rich, and it represents the show well.

Also, the "Company" recording is very, very good.

I would say that "Spring Awakening" was possibly the best music, but definitely not the best recording.
To quote the "Curtains" recording (which I think is great):
"The song is lackluster. It lacks...luster."

Good for them, even though I do NOT agree.

I agree with what everyone is saying in that the production of the recording was not great, and actually the live show is SO SO much better. But I absolutely adore the score, and think it's the best (from what I've heard) of all the choices, so yay! :)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Spring Awakening is better than Sondheim?

Surprise surprise. Personally, I think Grey Gardens was the better score. I think they're both great scores and kinda wish that the Tony for Best Score was a tie this year.

Can I just state that words are not enough to describe how furious I am that I did NOT get to see Grey Gardens on Broadway. You don't have to tell me I missed out. I know I missed out big time.
