Spring Awakening closing?

Posted: 10/13/08 at 7:27pmWith the economy the way it is and the grosses that it's been bringing in (about 60% full each week), do you think we can expect SA to close soon?...I hope it'll last a bit longer. It's beautiful.

Nothing has been announced. I'm guessing it will hold on for the holidays and be among a plethora of shows closing in Jan/Feb.
While it is indeed a show I have loved, I think it has reached the audience it is going to....and they have exhausted that market. (Smart move for those that jumped or were pushed to the tour -- their jobs will be around longer!)

It will probably close in February.
Although I hope it doesn't.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 7:39pmYou do realize that the two people that moved from the Broadway company to the tour company don't really need job security. Blake Bashoff and Kyle Riabko will have careers past Spring Awakening.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 7:43pmI hate it when people hope and pray for shows to close. I'd never pray for hundreds of people to be out of work.

I think the poster's comment was more directed towards Matt Shingledecker, who went from the Broadway production to the tour, where he will soon replace Kyle Riabko as Melchior.

I still meant in general for the three of them (and possibly/probably Canonico).
While I am a HUGE fan of Bashoff's and certainly HOPE he will continue a long and successful career: having a job is always preferable to looking for a job; for MOST actors.
I'm pretty sure that Kyle is slated to stay through Feb. (This was what he said as he was leaving for the tour back in August...I don't know if things have changed.) Bashoff was LIKELY to be leaving in Jan. But his contract was supposedly open ended.
RUMORS are that a new B'way Moritz was hired/signed back in August to take over for Gerard who was suppose to go on tour to replace Bashoff. Don't know any current "scuttle".

That's what he was promised when they needed him to switch to the tour when someone else backed out.
I'm pretty sure he's playing Georg on the tour and u/s Melchior.

"One can only hope & pray that it does."
You know what NGD2225, you should never hope for something to fail. I have been reading many posts of yours today and everything is negative and mean. Why would you want something to close and fail. Sure maybe it's not your favorite but other people like it and want it to succeed and run for a long time.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:16pmI'm just having a negative day today. No idea why.

NG, I've got to agree with DCR here, you have been really negative lately about almost everything. You used to be a very inspiring poster on these boards and I actually thought you had a lot of insight back under your original screenname...but lately you've been nothing but nasty.
As per the topic at hand...I think it's disgusting to HOPE and PRAY (really, pray? Really?) that a show closes, especially in this economy, and especially a show that has meant to much to so many people (read the testimonials to hear from fans who were contemplating suicide before seeing the show and then decided against it). I personally love the show and will miss it greatly when it ends its run, but I'm ecstatic to see it had a great run, will be well remembered and reach another generation of fans through the tour.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:37pmAnd also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the show's weekly nut 300K, so it's still making profit week after week since its already recouped. The figure was taken from a reliable poster on these boards, not a news story, though, so I could be mistaken.
#17re: Spring Awakening closing?
Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:48pmIt's pretty low....all those young'uns working for scale and all. (But I don't know the exact figure.)
#18re: Spring Awakening closing?
Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:48pmYeah, I know. I should try a harder to tone down on the nastiness. Though, when it comes to coolkid or MTF3 I am not responsible for my actions.
#19re: Spring Awakening closing?
Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:50pmI don't think this show has had a week where they've lost money yet. It's really cheap to run. Those kids are getting paid nothing more than scale, with the possible exception of Hunter Parrish.
#21re: Spring Awakening closing?
Posted: 10/13/08 at 9:58pmI also don't see why, if the show closed, it would fail? They recouped in 2007.

"I also don't see why, if the show closed, it would fail? They recouped in 2007."
I don't know if you are referring to my post or not. But what I (if you are indeed talking about me) meant by fail was to close or no longer be running or whatever. It wasn't meant like utterly fail, more not succeed any longer.

...and Christine Estabrook.
I said the kids. I would hope that Estabrook and Glenn Feschler are earning more than scale.

Actually, I'm fairly certain a number of them have rec'd raises...those that have been around a while:
Canonico, Doyle, Daniel, Murman, Socha, etc.
And note on already re-couping...worth noting. I'm pretty sure is re-couped back in August of 07 at that. Correct me if I'm wrong...and I know SOMEONE will. (tee hee)
