Spring play recommendation: Farinelli or Three Tall Women?

Which would you choose between these two? We will be in town next week, and we can fit in another show. I'll also be back May, so I could see Three Tall Women then. Would be open to Lobby Hero or another play, but it seems that people loved Farinelli and Three Tall Women a bit more. I will be seeing Angels in America in May.

Versus Glenda’s 2 Oscars and Laurie’s Tony.  I think i’d Go with Farinelli if you can see 3 Tall Women later.  The play isn’t very good and it’s not Rylance at his best, but I enjoyed it.  Get the on stage seating if you can for a unique experience.

If you want to see Rylance, then Farinelli is good. If you want to see Farinelli, though, then I'l probably go with the Albee...

Three Tall Women. Rylance will be back; Jack probably not. It is not Rylance at his best, or in the best play. Jackson's performance is as good as any you will see, and Metcalf is great too. And the play is a great one as well. As much as I enjoyed Farinelli, this Three Tall Women is a must see.

I'm a huge fan of Mark Rylance, and I'm usually telling everyone "don't miss a chance to see him!" 

But in this case, I think you're better off with Three Tall Women. As Hogan said, Rylance will continue to grace the New York stage for decades to come, and you'll likely get to see him in something better in the future. Glenda Jackson is a legend, and she is already 81.

I, along with my teenaged son, really enjoyed Farinelli.  I can't say we LOVED it, but we liked it and Rylance very much.

 

If you weren't going to be able to see 3 Tall Women later in its run, I would recommend that based on the wonderful word of mouth it's getting here.  But if you CAN see it later, book your tickets for it now, but see Farinelli now.

I have seen Farninelli and even though I like Rylance, I cannot recommend the play. It is badly constructed and there is very little characterization, even with Rylance using every one of his considerable acting tricks. I worshipped him in the Shakespeare plays a few years ago but if this had been the only time I saw him, I would not have been impressed at all. The fact that the part of Farinelli is played by an actor who does not sing the role was a grave mistake, I think.

I have not seen Three Tall Women yet - my ticket is next week, but I have many friends who have seen it already, and they cannot praise Glenda Jackson enough, and Laurie Metcalf. So I would say, without reservation, the Albee.

I saw Mark Rylance once on stage and it is likely I will see him again in a future production. But this may be yours or anyone's only opportunity to see the legendary Glenda Jackson.
