I saw Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, The King and I, Shuffle Along, Hamilton, The Color Purple and Daddy Long Legs on my last trip to NY a few weeks ago and you can't go wrong with any of them. All great shows in their own way.
I caught Something Rotten last year and that was super as well. Seeing as much of the original cast (rather than seeing it on tour) would be my suggestion as they all clicked so well and made for an amazing show. An American in Paris was also really good....saw it last year. As was Fun Home.
Have fun!

I would like to seen She Loves Me, but the seats selections are far back. I plan to see Curious again in late summer when I come back with my nephew... Something Rotten is AMAZING. I saw it though already. I hope to do something new:
OK here are my morning thoughts..
Friday: Waitress ** I will buy in advance since seats are limited.
Saturday 2pm: Tuck Everlasting ** Should I do Rush??? Or buy in advance, how has rush been going?
Saturday 8pm: American Pyscho ** Already bought
Sunday: School of Rock ** Should I do Rush??? Or buy in advance, how has rush been going?

Tuck could get harder if the show is catching on with good reviews and good word of mouth, as of right now it's probably easy enough since everybody who could got the $20 tickets they offered for previews.
I don't know about SoR recently. It was terrible over the holidays, but that's special and doesn't really speak for how the lines are now.

School of Rock is scheduled to tour in 2017, but I'm still making a point to see Alex and the Broadway company when I come to New York this summer.

I'll be in NYC beginning of June and was hoping to see The Color Purple too - mainly because the chances of a West End transfer look unlikely (as opposed to School of Rock and Hamilton) and I'm a huge OITNB fan. For those that have seen it, do you think it'll suffer without Jennifer Hudson? I was just wondering how large her role is and if her absence will mean the show is somewhat weaker.

No offense at all to Jennifer Hudson but the production won't suffer if she is not there. Her part is a reasonable sized part but the other two leads are freaking amazing...as is the rest of the cast.

I'd chose to see a new, original show over the Fiddler revival which you'll be able to see a really good productions of regionally or on tour. Tuck was beautiful, saw it 2 days ago. I was in tears at the end (and I'm not much of a crier). It has very cute story, beautiful set and I loved the music. Also, it's the girl playing the at age 11, and 8 times a week, is pretty incredibly. She really carries the show! It IS a show aimed at families and kids though, so be aware of that. Which of course doesn't mean that other age grounds can't enjoy it like I did.

The Color Purple and She Loves Me are absolute must-sees! Both are incredible productions with amazing lead performances! Fun Home is also terrific if you can get a ticket!
