Stage Door for Touring Shows?

They do. Those doors usually aren't as crowded as Broadway theatres though.

No. On tour, the actors live in the theatre and sleep in sleeping bags, usually in the mezz.

They never leave the building.

I just don't understand why someone would think the stage door thing doesn't happen on tour. Of course it does. Actors leave and go to their hotels or whatever, and sometimes you can say hi and ask them for a picture or sign stuff.

An American in Paris is at the Academy of Music in Philly (which is under the Kimmel Center umbrella). I've seen a lot of shows at the Academy of Music and there is usually people waiting after most performances at the stage door. I saw American in Paris in Boston (and will be seeing it in Philly as well) and most of the cast came out when I saw it in Boston. Like most things, you can't guarantee that everyone will come out and sign, but they in theory will.

^ I agree with Michelle, it's a different situation with tours and such, so you weren't being "stupid" at all. Hope you enjoy the shows (both of them are favorites of mine)! Also, the casts of both are very nice people, so I'm sure you'll have a great stage door experience!

Whizzer, as everyone has already stated yes they do and the crowd is tiny compared to NYC. The hardest thing may be finding the correct door. At my theater in Jacksonville, sometimes they come out of the door marked stage door and then there are two others. My two happier experiences was meeting Ann Margaret and Eartha Kitt without the crowds. I selected the wrong door for Liza however and missed her. I was the only one waiting. But I had met her prior, a couple of times, (once when I was the only one) so no big loss.

I have seen people go to the stage door, greet the actors, and get autographs on tours. It isn't usually a terribly large crowd. Just a heads up, some of these touring venues are quite large and the stage door is not necessarily in an obvious location. For example, in Denver, the stage door is in what looks like a dock loading area for a different theatre.

The door is easy to find in Hershey. When you leave the theatre turn left. You'll see an alley way with the touring truck there. Make a left there and the door is there.
