You realize that the box office staff is under no obligation to tell you how many seats are left and it may also be because they do not know. There could very well be production holds that have not yet been released they may be able to sell prior to curtain.
And you can easily ascertain the availability on Telecharge's website with their select your own seating option. Granted there can be also be seats in hold codes that don't appear as available, but are still technically for sale at the box office. It's probably a more accurate measure than cold calling Telecharge.

Man, the sense of entitlement that drips from your words is staggering. I've never heard anything but positive plaudits for the Booth's box office and FOH staff. I'm sure the person writing the "letter of complaint" is a crank who, like you, felt entitled to buy standing room tickets even though the show wasn't sold out and bristled when he didn't get his way.

Posted: 2/6/15 at 12:09pmI've been to the Booth many times to see NEXT TO NORMAL and never had an issue. I saw The Elephant Man a few weeks ago and the BO staff was nasty. I've never had a problem before. It was really weird.

I, too, have seen a handful of shows at the Booth - one of my favorite houses on Broadway. Next to Normal, Other Desert Cities, The Glass Menagerie, The Elephant Man... I've never had an unpleasant experience there. Truth be told, it's patrons who scream at box office attendants when they're simply doing their job that make them seem "nasty."
Not saying you were nasty, steven22. Just that they probably deal with impossible patrons all day for a show like The Elephant Man.
If you want to see a show, buy a ticket - but don't you dare get tempered with the box office staff for not selling you a standing room ticket if the performance is not sold out. Simple as that.

Posted: 2/6/15 at 12:23pmI have enjoyed reading your previous articles, but this one was just incredibly nasty. If you cannot afford a ticket to the performance, do not whine and complain that you weren't able to get a STANDING ROOM ONLY ticket when the performance is sold out. Some theaters are lenient on the SRO rule, some are not. The Booth obviously is not one of the lenient theaters, but do not get angry at the people working because they are only doing their jobs. By the way you write, I am sure you are young and that is perfectly fine, but you need to know that getting bitchy and pissy because a staff is doing their job is not in any way appropriate.

"To my horror, I learned that standing room tickets were only offered when the show sold out"
Ever here the term "Standing Room ONLY"? That's what that means. Now you know.
Maybe they didn't feel like telling you how many tickets were left because you were being rude. I went to the Booth box office twice asking about SRO, and both times they were incredibly helpful and polite. On the day I saw the show, I stopped by at around 12:30 and asked what the liklihood of SRO was, and she told me how many tickets were left, and what time she guessed they would sell out. But I was very polite, and I didn't press her for information. Judging by your attitude, I'm not surprised the box office worker didn't feel like giving you all that information.

Posted: 2/6/15 at 1:17pmHey Guys, sorry if the words came across as entitled, definitely don't feel entitled to any ticket on Broadway and I'm definitely grateful to see any Broadway show. I was trying to add a bit of humor to my experience, but I realize it came across as negative. The reason I decided to write about the negative experience at the Booth was because that is what I was hearing from multiple people in line that I talked to. I won't go into details, but I am definitely sorry if this post sparked a negative reaction in anyone. It definitely wasn't my intention.

Posted: 2/13/15 at 9:36amI went December 27th to see Elephant Man. My friend and I walked up to the box office around 4:30 and the show was at 8:00. I asked if they were selling standing room and the woman asked around and told me yes. So we bought two at $40 each. I believe they sold somewhere between 9-13

That outdated information in the post above isn't very helpful anymore.
I went Wednesday night an hour before curtain after seeing about ten seats remaining on the site. The box office said they had sold all the standing room tickets by 3:00 because the show was sold out then and the tickets now remaining were returns that came in later.
So I really don't know when to go try this. Seems pretty difficult now to know exactly when they are going to be "sold out."

"For those of you who don’t know, some theaters offer highly discounted tickets for the insane people who are willing to stand for an entire show and risk swollen ankles in the name of dirt cheap tickets."
If you get swollen ankles from standing for only two hours I suggest you see a doctor.

Posted: 2/17/15 at 8:59pmDo people line up for SRO tix the same a rush tix a few hours before the box office opens? Anyone try in the past week?

Posted: 2/17/15 at 9:11pmSeriously. If you consider standing for 2 hours to be only for "insane" people, you need to get off your ass and move. Start slow. A walk around the block maybe. And in a few months, try standing for a little while and work your way up to the insanity of standing for a whole 2 hours.

Unless the performance is completely sold out in advance, I doubt that would be of any use. From what I hear, when they DO sell out, it usually isn't until the evening. You're in for a long, cold wait if you get there before 10:00am

Posted: 2/17/15 at 11:37pmI got to the box office this past Saturday just after 10 am and got the last pair of SRO for the matinee. They still had more for the evening with no one there yet to buy them.
