This production is aiming to move to Broadway. I hope to catch it before it does!

If you are accurate that it is "aiming to move to Broadway", then why is it making a pit stop at another off Broadway non profit first? It already had a successful run at the Atlantic. It got great reviews and does not need more development. A run at Second Stage will allow those locked out of the sold out Atlantic run to see it, which is cool, but I don't see how a play like this would have any chance of turning a profit on Broadway with no bankable stars and with two off-Broadway productions that will have already eaten up its core audience.

I loved this show, and I'm glad most of the original cast seems to be returning. The characters were so well drawn and complex, and the language served them well. They each sounded like an individual.

Maybe it will be recast for Broadway?

@Matt Rogers: that's a good question for the producers. I will say that a run at Second Stage will allow the theater to attach its name to a Broadway transfer, if it happens at all. The financial benefits and name recognition are incredibly alluring for not-for-profits. It seems as if Second Stage was looking for a production to transfer, assuming why they programmed PSYCHO. And we have seen countless examples of very successful plays without big names in the cast. You should refresh your memory.

If "successful" means "recouped" please "refresh my memory". Can you name 5 in the past 5 years?

The way you posed the question, it implied as if it was impossible to transfer, and there had never been evidence of a successful play without big names. That is not true. I believe you meant that it is more difficult for plays without stars to recoup, and yes, THAT is true.

August? Doubt? None of those had big names. (Cherry Jones is big in theater...)

And it does seem odd that they'd scoop up another theater's show? Seems an odd fit for 2nd Stage all around.

"Second Stage Theatre was founded in 1979 to produce “second stagings” of contemporary American plays that deserved to reach a wider audience." It is actually pretty inline with the original mission statement.

2nd stagings within the same season essentially?

But I meant just more like design wise and writing wise. 2nd Stage tends toward that sitcom like feel of stuff. They don't really do "gritty."

I loved this play the first time around, and I wouldn't mind seeing it again with some friends who missed it the first time around. Does anyone have any ideas how to get reasonable tickets? I guess I could subscribe to Second Stage.

Saw it this past week. Unbelievably well written characters. Gorgeous, lived-in, moving, hilarious performances. Best staging of a play I've seen in a while. GO.

How is the staging? I believe at Atlantic there was a turntable and the set revolved.

Saw it tonight. Wonderful play. The set is indeed on a turntable (I'd live in that apartment in a minute!). Highly recommend it!

Can anyone share what the run time of this show is? I have it on my short list of shows to see if I can fit in while I'm in town next week. Thanks!

I saw it both at The Atlantic and at Second Stage. Wonderful play - It is even richer and deeper now and the only cast change is Ron Cephas Jones who is now playing Junior. I think his addition alone makes it worth a second viewing - the relationship between Pops and Junior is so much more interesting now.

broadwaybelter, the LaBute play is supposed to start on 4/28, so I doubt it would be able to .
