I was watching some footage of “Big Fish” and during “On the Road”, Karl the Giant is able to dance freely. Is he on stilts? How do they work and how on earth do they costume a character who uses stilts? (This is just how my mind wanders. )

They rehearse...and the costumes are made like all the others, with measurements.

Here are some cool shots from the Lord of the Rings musical, which this thread reminded me of.

we made a pair for a hs show, for one of the least graceful girls I've ever known. Within minutes she was walking around. The were strapped to her calves.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But, don’t the ensemble members of The Lion King who are the Giraffes, walk on stage with stilts on as part of their costumes?

A local theater company here did a production of A Christmas Carol and had the Ghost of Christmas Future on stilts in a Grim Reaper outfit. Super effective and creepy!

Although they weren't exceptionally tall stilts, Brooks Ashmanskas appeared in them in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me during an audition sequence where he portrayed both Bob Fosse and Tommy Tune.  The stilts were for Tommy Tune, obviously.
