#1Strange 9 to 5 Ticket Prices...
Posted: 3/29/09 at 9:58pmI got my tickets for 9 to 5 a while ago with the broadwaybox discount. This afternoon I went back to look for more tickets for more people in my family and noticed something strange. The last row of the theater, which cost $25 towards the end of the run of Drowsy's run, is priced at $65/$75. Is it just me or is that a bit pricey? I just found that somewhat strange...

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:02pmThe last few rows of the mezz were $35 for CRY BABY. They honestly shouldn't be more than that for 9 TO 5. The producers are very greedy...

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:04pmI told my family about the $65 discounted seats in the first row mezz, and they wanted the last row since they loved it so much for Drowsy and thought it would be cheaper, but were shocked to find that it would be $10 more...

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:04pmThat's not strange at all. Depending on how the producers what to run the theater and the ticket sales is how they are sold. Ticket pricing for all shows change once it's run a while and barley made much money. Unlike Rock Of Ages which lowered their prices a lot now to bring people into the theater (they won't recoup any time soon). It all depends on the show and the run.

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:04pm75 dollars is ridiculous for last rows of a rear mezz.

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:08pmThats pretty high! I bought tickets to see Bernandette Peters a couple years agao and it was only $40 and we were in the 8th to last row! I'm not sure if there should be a big difference between a concert and a show but either way its a high price for any tickets!

Imagine what they would be if there was no recession.
One of the producers must be Gordon Gekko.

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:11pmRight, the mid mezz is about 80-90. For some reason, only the last row in the Marquis is priced lower. That one row is priced at 75. Which is what puzzles me. Anyone who is moderately connected can get a discount for 55-65. I should think that the lowest priced seats should be lower than the discount...

Posted: 3/29/09 at 10:15pmThe family members who saw Drowsy there said it was a great view...after all, it's only 12 rows back. And for $25 the 12th row is a great deal. For $75, not so much...

I bought a ticket today for $65.50 13th row orchestra.
I think that's pretty good pricing (of course with discount).
It's a hot-ticket show, so I'm just glad they even have discounts available.
Their mezz is not set very far back, so it's understandable that they wouldn't lower their prices for it just yet if people are willing to pay.

Posted: 3/31/09 at 3:44pmWell that is the cheapest ticket unless you use the discount code...that's way too pricy for the last row of a theatre.

As long as they believe folks will buy them at the higher price, then they will continue to sell them. They don't "owe" anyone anything by selling them at a reduced price....it's a business.
You don't expect to pay lower prices at a restaurant when you sit by the kitchen door, do you? If you don't think the price is worth it, don't buy them. Pure and simple.
If the demand for the show is lacking, the price of the tix will (probably) come down.
