I don't see Lea Michele as "Louise/Gypsy" at all. The girl lacks sex appeal.

Gaga doesn't appear out of Gaga guise.
Gaga could be anything you want her to be.

You should google the real Gypsy Rose Lee to see how close her face is to Gaga's if you match the 40's makeup.

Someone, that's kind of what I was going for. Gaga would be an obvious choice to portray a 40's burlesque star.

If she gained about 30 pounds, maybe. Otherwise, there's nothing at all that's "obviously" 40s about her.
But Gaga, who does not appear out of character, is going to spend 75% of a movie in which she has a supporting role with no make-up and looking boyish?

She has no problem looking boyish.

Boyish, as in a girl looking boyish. Not playing the character of man.
The real Gypsy.
Gaga is not afraid of looking vulnerable, she has often been photographed without make up. Who would've thought of gorgeous glamorous movie star Natalie Wood as boyish?

Gaga is too old and ugly to be Louise. Plus there isn't much talent there. Not what I call talent. Talent for the deaf dumb and blind maybe.
^ I guess it could be argued that's what makes her a good choice for Louise...covering up a lack of real talent/"good looks" with razzle dazzle and showmanship. I guess. Kinda.

She's really not that old. I don't think she's particularly ugly, I just think she goes out of her way to make herself look ugly. At least I assume that's what she's going for.
Besides, even if her looks were the problem, she'd had have Barbra's gauzy lens anyway.
But she's not going to play Louise even if this movie does get made.
It's insanity, the notion of Streisand playing Rose in 2013. What is wrong with you people?
Love, what DO you like? God! You're so full of hate!!
Gaga may never play Louise and she may not be the typical Hollywood/Broadway starlet, but she's beyond talented. She sings, dances, acts, directs her own videos, writes her own songs, is a classically trained piano player, is trained in Musical Theatre, and has the most amazing stage presence and control over an audience of this whole generation of pop stars. Plus she's also a fashion icon.
I love Patti LuPone. Gaga bores me. I've seen it all before!

I think when casting for the role of Louise, producers should try to find somebody who is not confined to a 24-karat gold wheelchair. Unless they're going to take Gypsy Rose Lee into a Delores DeLago direction. but Midler's already called Gaga out on ripping that off before, so, pretty much, she's out of the running.
They should have taped Patti's brilliant Gypsy for PBS and let that stand as the ultimate record of the show.
Also, they should have put the recent Follies on PBS. What a terrible shame they didn't.

I changed what I had put in the 'Smash' thread and moved it here since this is the better thread to discuss it. The Playbill article that suggested Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee for this film was not making casting suggestions for both of Rose's daughters. It was only making suggestions for Louise AKA Gypsy Rose Lee.

Anne Hathaway, really?? Most of the actresses on that list are way too old.
