Laurents pulled a bait-and-switch. In the Forties, maybe only Variety would have written about it, if that. In today's world where coverage of... anything, really, is much more comprehensive, we just got to see it in action. WB passed on the creative control, and Universal said, "Mamma Mia made us 6 mill, and that remake of Jesus Christ Superstar looks like it won't be lensing until later this century, so let's get a project that actually wants to happen on the books." End of story.

I maintain I don't think she has the voice anymore. A lovely voice, yes, but no longer a powerful one.

That might be more relevant if she were considering doing 8 shows a week, trying to reach the back of the balcony. But I'm fairly certain they can get this right in the studio for film.

Perhaps the age factor might be overcome if it was done as an animated musical with Trey Parker and Matt Stone directing and Barbara doing voiceovers.

Reggie-
I think the comment derives from the fact that saying a movie made in 1993 is old, simply b/c you're 17 is what TheatreDiva (and I, myself) take offense to.
1939 is old. 1993 is not.
Carol Channing is old. I am not.
John Waters as "Uncle Jocko" would be perfect!
If not Waters, then Steve Buscemi.

Word on the street is that Angelina Jolie has expressed interest in playing Rose. The only concern is that she is demanding that they cast two of her children. Any two will do, but they must be two of her children. So if AngJo does it, it's a happy day in Hollywood, because Marni Nixon will sing once more!
Carol Channing is old. I am not.
I think I would like to take that as my new mantra. Until Carol dies--or I die, whichever happens first.

"Arthur Laurents is old and crazy. I'm not old."
Barbara is on Oprah right now!

PJ/Diva-
I use that anytime I hear someone say they're old. It usually gets a laugh, and then shuts them up, b/c how can you respond to that?
And, PJ, she isn't going to die. Ever. She may say she's 90, but I don't believe that for a second.
