Does anyone know of any camps here in the west coast?
I'll second the Paper Mill Conservatory. I did the program for 3 years and it was incredible. It also looks amazing on a resume.
This Stagedoor Manor place sounds HARDCORE.
36 shows in nine weeks? geezus.

French Woods does over 50 shows in a summer. As well, it has scholorship programs.
good lord.
I can only regret not going to one of these places when I was younger.
CAP21 Pre-College Musical Theatre Program.
It lasts 6 weeks, and is located in NY.

Very good program.
I live in Kansas and I do a summer camp called "Broadway at Baker" which is at Baker University. Music Theatre for Young People of Kansas City is the organization that runs it. It is one of the best because you learn and perform a show in ONE WEEK. They are incredible/life-changing shows too. I highly recomend doing it. If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask! :)
I went to Usdan for a few summers (though not for theatre) and it's AMAZING there. But it's on Long Island and if you're not from LI, NJ or the city it will be hard to get there because it's a day camp. They have a Repertory Theatre that you have to audition for and is really intense - the kids they get are great. If you do the normal Musical Theatre major then it's 1/2 the day and you can do a minor like Tap dance or Jazz dance or chorus which is what most of my friends in Theatre did. They also have Drama as an option. It's also more affordable than most - I believe it was under $2000 for 7 or 8 weeks when I went there in 1997 and 1998. What's great about Usdan too is that the faculty is excellent and you have a 1hr assembly every day - in July they would get performers from all over the place and really great ones too. August is mostly student performances. When I was there Mariah Carey also came because she had gone to Usdan once. They also offer financial aid which is a perk.
My brother did the Lee Strasburg program a summer ago and liked it a lot. It's near Union Square, though some kids who weren't from the area had to find housing elsewhere because they don't offer dorming, etc. He thought it was really good. There was another program that he had auditioned for (it was Stella Adler or something like that) and he chose Strasburg over it and was happy with it but I think both of those are really good.
Hmm, I'm not that great a singer, actually not good at all. So does anybody know a good theatre camp, not musical theatre? Thanks. ^_^
Broadway Artists Alliance in NYC is great! Go to: www.BroadwayArtistsAlliance.org , one week long, and not too expensive. You can choose your major in Singing, Acting, OR Dancing...but you do all three. I loved it and am definately going back next summer if I get accepted again!

How old do you have to be to attend Stagedoor Manor?

DirtyRottenGirl asked how old do you have to be to attend Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center....
The ages of those who attend range from ages 8 - 18. The oldest are 18 and entering college. My daughter went for 8 summers from ages 9 - 16. Last summer (her final one at Stagedoor) she was 16 and entering college (she now goes to Tisch/CAP21) and while she technically could go for two more summers due to her age, it truly stops once you enter college! So, no more Stagedoor for her!
I can't recommend it enough for those who are very passionate about theater.

I went to Walnut Hill (http://www.walnuthillarts.org/) last summer (It's in Natick, MA) and it was probably the most amazing experience of my life thus far. It's five weeks long, and you participate in two shows, along with taking classes and workshops throughout the program. The classes are fun and it's located just outside of Boston, so you got to go on trips every weekend between rehearsals.
I'm pretty sure I'm going back this summer, but it depends on if my mom can come up with the tuition ($4,980).
I loved the instructors, and it was an amazing learning experience. I recommend it if you can pull together the tuition :) It was fantastic.

i went to Usdan for a summer. in 2001, i was 11. and i really didnt love it. It was partly the classes i chose; i was taking orchestra despite the fact that i wanted to do the theatre there, although usdan isnt known for its theater nearly as much as its music department, which is definitely awesome.
Ive been going to frenchwoods for 4 summers; this will be my 5th. i absolutely LOVE IT and couldnt be happier there. the shows are incredible, the people are incredible, everything is incredible and i cant stop raving about it enough.
I agree about Broadway Artists Alliance. You have to apply and now audition to get in so there is always a group of INSANELY talented kids. As a voice major, I learned the choreography from Broadway Shows in the morning, then had classes with major casting directors, performers, and teachers within the industry. We also got to go see a Broadway Show. In the session we have coming up, we are going backstage at CHita Rivera The Dancer's Life. Over the summer we also do a huge final performance at Dodger Stages (where Altar Boyz is, among others). It is by far the most intense and professional training you can get. When I originally joined it was pretty easy to get in. Now it is a great deal harder. So I highly recommend the program, but only if you are serious about a Broadway career.

Does anyone know of a very professional theatre day camp for teens in Manhatten?

The Broadway Theatre Project website is www.broadwaytp.org. It's a little pricey, but you'll work from 8 in the morning until midnight. You will learn a lot about yourself as a performer. It is by far the most valuable theatrical experience I've had.

I was looking through a bunch of these and noticed most are high school related. Are there any for college students. Our school is famous for their music, but mainly opera and I'd like to explore some Broadway/musical theatre camps and maybe schools. Any suggestions?

Highly recommend French Woods.
They do shows every three weeks.
So you can try it for three weeks, six weeks, or nine weeks.
Melissa Errico and Jason Robert Brown both went there.

Just went to www.frenchwoods.com.
Last year they did Rumors, Jesus Christ Superstar, Ruthless, Blood Brothers, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, Beauty and the Beast, Wonderful Town, Mame, The Goodbye Girl, Floyd Collins, Damn Yankees, Joseph, A Comedy of Errors, Diary of Anne Frank, The Boyfriend, Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, Tommy, Oliver, Gypsey, Me and My Girl, The Little Mermaid, Sweet Charity, George M, and Les Miserables.
They do 13 full scale shows every three weeks, five theaters and use full orchestras for the musicals.
I'm looking for one in Mass/Conn somewhere, one that lasts at maximum 2 weeks. (Or more if it's day camp)
I do a summer program ALL summer long for one show, it's just our community thing, but I'd love to try a different camp.
Hey DD, maybe we can go to the same one since we both live in MA! :)
