Any camps that last 2 weeks or less?
On the East Coast?
Hey,
I've been to summerfame its a really great program relatively inexpensive most schools can get you ion for free all you pay is room and board. Patti thompson is the voice person she is wonderful. She works at syraucse university in both the music and musical theater departments wonderful woman you will learn so much. You also recieve training from the other areas of emphasis dance, acting and tech. You chose one of the four as your major and you spend all day doing it and it culminates in one final perforamcen is a agreat camp for the price.

Whenever everyone starts getting letters stating if you got in a camp, tell us!
I just got into Broadway Artists Alliance for this summer :)
I'm looking at Northwestern, NYU Tisch, Interlochen, and maybe Stagedoor.
ACTeen has a great summer camp in Manhattan.. they have a 4 or 5 week program that does movement, singing and tons of on camera, monologues, shakespeare. They have an agent showcase as well you can audition for. www.Acteen.com I went there for like 9 years.
I also suggest CAP 21.. AMAZING program.

Definitely CAP21. One of the best experiences I've ever had. I learned so much in those six weeks.
Any theatrical dance camps?

If you're serious about studying musical theater, Oklahoma City University offers one of the premier musical theater camps. Last year, we welcomed over 40 students from California to New York.
You take daily classes in music theory, piano, acting and dance. Master classes include improv, career preperation and voice sessions (last year, Florence Birdwell, teacher of Chenoweth and Kelli O'Hara, taught). On top of all of this, you perform in a fully staged musical (this year "Babes In Arms"). All classes are taught by professors and associates directly from OCU's staff. In other words, you get training by the same professors who teach the musical theater majors.
Student live in the university apartment complex (with swimming pool) and also perform in weekly cabaret shows. It's not for those who want to sit around...it's for those who want to prepeare for a career in this industry.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, but it's in Oklahoma... le sigh.

hi just me if anyone is disabled here there is a great summer camp called the national theatre workshop for the handicapped. i did the camp for to summer 2003 and 2004 and hoping to get in this summer. and there is a porgam for high senior and collge who are major in theatre and muiscal theatre. they are called beadles because they aslo help the people in the camp.
I am doing US Performing Arts Camps' Music Theatre Camp at University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in late July.
I've done a lot of summer theatre stuff, from summer stock to Interlochen to summer school, but we won't talk about that, and now I'm getting ready to head of to CCM. I will say one thing: I'm definitely still going to Stagedoor Manor this summer, I dont' care if college is coming up! It is the single most incredible experience I have ever had. The directors are professionals in the field, and so are many of your fellow campers! I cant speak enough about the merits of the program. I learned SO MUCH and made some incredible friends. Worth every penny.
I recommend Long Lake Camp for the Arts for anyone interested in summer theater camps that aren't quite so intense. The camp has a great theater program, as well as dance, music and circus. But you also get the opportunity to relax and spend time with your friends.

I've been to Long Lake, as well as Interlochen. Long Lake for me was a great experience as a person, but not as a performer. If you want something really intense, don't go there. However, I would absolutely recommend it for anyone who was interested in the arts but wasn't sure exactly where they would serve best. If you'd like to find out where you're headed in the arts...then definitely check it out.
Interlochen is known for being very intense and competitive. Being, probably, one of the hardest programs to get into in the country. It is not for those who don't want to do theatre or musical theatre for the rest of their lives. It is a 6- week program and there's also a 3-week program. The website is www.interlochen.org
with such alumni as Victoria Clark, Anothony Rapp, Felicity Huffman, Barret Foa, Adam Guettel, Michael Arden, Logan Lipton, Alexandra Silber, RJ Larese, Tovah Feldshuh, Bruno Campos, Eric Millegan and so so many more.
Not many people get in, but it's well worth it if you do.
My friend went to Oklahoma City University this summer and loved it. They did Bye Bye Birdie which I heard was amazing!!
You can check out the pics here at their MySpace place. You can also join this theater page..they have contests and prizes..woo hoo!! And even Kristin singing!

For any of you guys who attended Stagedoor Manor, did you like it?
I'm afraid if I stay away from home for too long, and I haven't made any friends, I'll become homesick and hate every minute of it.
Anyone know any good ones in the Philly area?
I joined the OCU site!! Love it. I hope I win. And they have Little Shop playing.
Just some more information about Summer Theatre Institute.
It is a 4 week program. This year it was housed in Juilliard. It is a VERY ensemble driven program. There is musical theatre and straight theatre. Both 'majors' have class together in the morning. Everyone takes Movement, Speech and Voice, Stage Combat, Mime, and a few other classes. YOu take 2 classes every morning.
Then we eat lunch and split up. Musical Theatre kids have 2 more classes in the afternoon. They are usually some combo of Singing, Dance, Acting (Scene to Song), Audition, Song and Dance, and a few others.
Straight Theatre had their Acting class 5 days a week with an absolutely amazing teacher named Kevin Kittle, who works at Mason Gross. Their other afternoon period was usually Scene Study, and it was occasionally something else, like Improv.
Everyone eats dinner together, and at night we all have Preformance Ensemble. Sometimes this would be a special class (we had an INCREDIBLE night of a viewpoints class), sometimes it would be group excersizes, and on Sundays, everyone had to present at least 7 things from classes during the week.
The focus of the progrm is on training, but we do preform and original show. The hours of work are VERY long, and it is an extremely exhausting program, but so so so worth it. The people are some of the best I have worked with (especially whatyouown's cousin, love her!), and I have learned an insane amount.
I just got back from my 4th year at Stagedoor and I have to say, I never fail to have the most fantastic time ever.
They did some really great shows this year and if anyone is thinking about going to Stagedoor, I seriously reccomend it. It is so much fun and you learn so much and it's intense because they really care about putting on an amazing performance.
Just a plug for the Broadway Theatre Project.
It's intense and you'll be pretty drained at the end of it, but it was by far the best experience I have ever had at a summer theatre camp. It's open to high schoolers and college age students, so it really covers a wide range. Some of the seminars were a little boring to sit through as a college student, because they pertained mostly to the high schoolers. But all the classes were great, I got some amazing vocal training and got much more comfortable with dance. I would recommed it to anyone. Scholarships are available if money is an issue.
