Does anybody have any thoughts on the Sunday In The Park revival? I've heard the recording of the London cast, but I know there are some changes being made. Anybody know anything?

I hope the orchestra will be a little more than 5 members like the London production.

Hopefully they'll be generous enough to give us a horn or something a little more than just a clarinet and an oboe or something. On listening to the London cd, I was surprised that they could sell it as a recording of the score when all that could be noted was just a chorus of voices and about two instruments accompanying them.

The recording even had additional players! I think 8 for the recording, 5 for the theatre. Imagine only 5 players.

Well, I did see the tenative cast listing and it looked like a full cast. Definitely more than five people.

We're taking about the orchestra size.

Got it. Well, the musical director has changed, so I suppose there's a chance.

I heard the orchestrations are not getting carried over so I pray we can get an "Everybody Loves Louis" that doesn't sound like she is singing it at a Bar Mitzvah. I mean, I've been to some great ones, but none that I had to pay to go to.

- Good news! Sadly we probably won't get a recording though.

This is Roundabout though so don't expect any kind of lush orchestrations.
I have my ticket for Feb.10 and cannot wait. The supporting cast is not what I thought it would be, but this looks to be one of the most promising evenings of theatre in a while. And to be frank it will be nice to see Sondheim without Doyle.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

The original Broadway production was only scored for 11 musicians, so it's not like it had a huge sound to begin with. (A larger orchestra was used for the Broadway cast recording).

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

When you're criticising the number of musicians in the London production, remember that it started in the Menier Chocolate Factory which only has 200 seats and is absolutely tiny, and then transferred to the Wyndhams which is a very small West End theatre (http://theatremonkey.com/WYNDHAMSstalls.htm). So the number of people in the orchestra was entirely appropriate for the intimate scale of the show.
