Sunday in the Park with George- is it worth seeing?

If Student Rush or even Hiptix's is available - I'd definitely urge you to go see Sunday in the Park with George. This revival has made me take a third/fourth/fifth look at how I understand Sondheim. Certainly, the projections alone are a 'character' within the production. I sat in the mid-mezzanine (EE) on "Tony Sunday" and the enthusiasm of both the cast and audience was amazing.

It's more than just "worth seeing". It's a "must see"!

SUNDAY IN THE PARK has a beautifully spare, intelligently written script mached with a dense score and it requires you to pay attention and think about the text as it unfolds.

It's not a flashy cartoon musical like WICKED but, but for me having seen SUNDAY dozens of times I would happily see it again because there is always something new to be gleaned from it. WICKED was a chore for me to sit through the first time.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Even from the far side of the rear mezz, the show is breathtaking. As someone else said, it's probably the best show I've ever seen on Broadway--possibly anywhere.

I chose, and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

Without a doubt, go see it! I saw in on Saturday night, and without trying to come across as trite, it was absolutely magical. I have always loved the show and the score and have never seen a production executed as brilliantly as this one. I cannot even being to count the number of times I had chills throughout my body...or tears in my eyes.

(Also, we were in the mid-mezz row GG center and I thought the seats were just fine...incidentally, I am 6'4' and had no problems with leg room!!!)

I was wondering the same thing...I'm a Seurat fan, but I don't know about the songs. I've only listened to 2 though. I wonder if there are any hiptix left.

I was able to get hiptix on Monday for this evening's performance. I am betting there are a few left.

Yeah, I guess it is worth seeing, if only to see what all the shouting is about.

i'll give my honest opinion

*There my be Spoilers but i'll try to avoid them *

i decided to go on Saturday to see what everyone was cheering about. I have mixed feelings about Sondheim, but i love art, especially the famous Seurat painting.

I decided to convince my parents to go as well. they're NOT broadway fans and i thought they might like it.

we got there and we were SO impressed when the show began. the way they pulled off the drawing with projections was great. The show had great potential, but then we all started to agree that the musical score lacked flair.

I understand this will get a lot of complaints from broadway fans, but i am not generally a HUGE sondhiem fan, some of his shows (Sweeney Todd, Company) are enjoyable, but some, like Into the Woods are amongst my least favorite. For me, Sunday... fit into the musical sceme of Company, where it was mostly rhythmic dialogue, and only one or two good songs.

the show was interesting enough and act 1 wrapped up and it was a good...but not insanely AMAZING show.

then, from act II for me, it went completely downhill. I always feel like Sondheim ruins the shows in Act II, and should just end them in Act I. (for example, Into the Woods and Sunday could have easily been well ended without reviving some relative of the main character and starting the plot again)

All in all, i was impresssed by the visuals, not impressed by the music, and although it was NOT my favorite show, i was glad I had seen it, since the concept was very clever

if you get a chance (and a discount code) even though i didn't love this show, i'd still say to see it.

~sorry if you guys don't agree with my assessments of Sondheim, hes so revered amongst my friends i know i'm not in the norm, but despite the things i didn't like, this show is STILL worth seeing~

Ok-sorry to interrupt the reviews and such, but has anyone tried rush in the past few days? (General, not Student). I'd really like a second chance to see this production, and the only day I can make it is Friday. Anyone want to tell me if that's a bad idea or not?

I'm determined to see this but I cannot decide if I should see this on Saturday evening or Sunday. There are great seats left for Saturday but Sunday is the last show!! On Sunday best available seats seem to be the one on Mid Mezz. I might take Sat tix for the sake of the view but I still wanna see the final show....

i was in front mezz last saturday and thought the view was amazing, but for the sake of curiosity i checked even the last row of the mezz and thought the view was very good.

i would personally choose closing night just to say i saw a show close, plus the equity day fundraisers that you can buy are awesome, but i could also undersstand wanting the better seats.
