As long as they're going the younger Charity route, what would you all think about Susan Egan in the role? Who am I kidding? The show will probably won't make it long enough to for a replacement cast.
I think she'd be adorable. And she has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in a while!
Sounds good to me. =)
ANYTHING to get her back on Broadway!!
i definitely second dotmarie!!
I would be more inclined to see it than I am now.
Aw. I would like that - Susan is adorable. Yeah, I would definitely like to see that.
Sue would never sell tickets, I'm afraid.

...I would rather see her in an original musical again.
:ducks:
Well, she's been the replacement in a few shows already: Cabaret, Millie.
Susan would be fabulous! I never even thought of her as Charity, but I could definitely see it.
I miss Susan. Where is she???
Well if they want the show to close in 2 weeks, she'd be a great replacement choice.
I find Egan to be a tad boring.
Egan is another one of those "great voice; dull as dirt onstage" performers.
Her tones are just a little harsh for my taste, and she often has trouble playing the soft side of a character. I love that Drat! The Cat! got a complete recording but I just can't listen to it, mostly because of The Egan.
I think that Susan Egan has a pretty voice, but she doesn't captivate me. I saw her as Sally Biowles in Cabaret and while she was great, I saw someone even better in my community theater production.
i love susan egan to death. she's also one of the kindest people too. and so funny! i went to her joe's pub concert and thought she was hillarious. i'd love to see her back on broadway. i'd also be more inclined to see sweet charity if she was in it...
Barry & Fran Weissler are going to be looking for names such as Paige Davis or Sarah Jessica Parker (for example) to see if they can boost sales after Christina leaves. Those are two names the fans would like to see replace Christina, so hopefully they will get one of them. Paige Davis is so perfect for this role, it's not even funny.
I LOVE susan!! she's so sweet and so adorable, I'd love to see her as Charity but I think she's on her concert tour right now

I've never heard of Paige Davis and it's not like Christina is setting the box office on fire!
Paige Davis is pretty big. She is known for hosting Trading Spaces on TLC for many seasons.
And she danced the ensemble of CHICAGO and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST before her TV work.
Then last summer the Weissler's brought her back as a Roxie replacemnt. And she set the box office on fire! Attendance was in the the upper 90's for most of her run.
THE TRADING SPACES GIRL!?!?! I didn't know she could actually DO anything.
ljay, you just blew my freakin' MIND.
^ *is confused*
Oh and I forgot to mention she played Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC in Pittsburgh earlier this summer.
And these are her regional credits
A Chorus Line (Val), Pippin (Catherine), Midsummer (Puck), Hello Dolly (Irene Molloy), West Side Story (Anita)

I also wonder what she's up to, besides getting married. Her website hasn't been updated for a long time.

Wow, Paige Davis would be wonderful as Charity! I would definitely go back to see her.
I love her singing Belle, shes so perfect.
While I love Susan (she was great in Cabaret) I just don't see her in the role. Maybe Sutton Foster or Amy Spanger.

I think everybody is missing the point. The role of Charity Hope Valentine is a dancing role not just a singing role. Susan Egan, as talented as she is, isn't known as a dancer but as a singer and actor. Although I don't think of anyone living who deserves to follow in Christina Applegate's footsteps, it would have to be a dancer-singer not just a singing actor, unless this latest version of "Sweet Charity" has eliminated a lot of the choreography for its leading lady. Megan Mullally, for her vulnerability, comes to mind as a good choice. I think she can dance based on what I remember her doing in "How to Succeed."
