Okay, Chris Crocker.

Really, I don't think anyone is saying that she's a horrible person, nor is anyone saying that getting her autograph is somehow legally owed to them just by purchasing a ticket. I think what some of us (myself included) are saying that it doesn't reflect very well on her that greater stars than her from the same show find the time to acknowledge the fans while Foster sneaks out on a (semi-?) regular basis. Spin it any way you want, but it doesn't.

There's no law anywhere that says that an actor has to enter the theatre through the stage door, or leave through the stage door. An actor only owes the audience a good performance, and that's it........that's it........nothing more. If you can meet them at the stage door and chat, get an autograph, that's the icing on the cake.

There could be anyone of a number of reasons Sutton, or anyone else for that matter, won't exit the theatre via the stage door. It's none of our business. Would you really blame them if you had to sign an autograph and pose for pics, by the same people, over and over again..............it's rather disturbing.

Just because she may or may not chat/sign at the stage door, shouldn't change anyone's opinions on her. She's a stranger........we don't know her. We can't take it personally. How can we take it personally when she's a stranger???

Just throwing out good old common sense here.....

She doesn't need an "excuse" for not coming out.

That was my point. And if you honestly believed that, why did you follow it up the sentiment with more excuses: "Because she doesn't always come out of the stage door? Because she might be tired after performing? Because she has a life?" You're exactly the type of Sutton fan I was referencing in my post.

And my expression "change for the worse" is relative. She stagedoored nearly every performance in her early days, but with Drowsy and now Young Frankenstein, she only does it once in a blue moon. That doesn't make her a horrible person, but it IS a change from her previous habits.

"it doesn't reflect very well on her that greater stars than her from the same show find the time to acknowledge the fans while Foster sneaks out on a (semi-?) regular basis."

Here we go with the sense of entitlement again. Did it ever occur to you that its people with your kind of attitude who might actually frighten Sutton into not wanting to meet the "fans" after the show? I'd run the other way too. Who cares what other "greater stars than her" are doing? She's an individual, and can do whatever the hell she wants when the show is over. Its an absolute disgrace that this gifted actress can't go to and from work without being chastised for not giving into selfish demands of people who call themselves "fans", when all they are really looking for it attention poured upon themselves. If I were a producer of a Broadway show, I'd try my hardest to figure out a way to protect my cast from any stagedooring experiences that they don't want to deal with. Yul Brynner had it right when he did King & I at the Uris (now Gershwin). His car went right into the building, and he never ever had to encounter anybody.

"Instead of bothering people at the stage door, why don't you all go do some volunteer work in the local soup kitchen or go rock crack babies at Bellevue. You'll be far more fulfilled than you would be waiting for these "stars" to shine on you."

Oh GAWD

"Wow, you have a picture of Mary Testa ... big fuc**ng deal. That and a buck will get you a cup of coffee. Get a life ..."

That's awesome. And it's going on my favorite quote list.

"Of the two, Megan has BY FAR more attitude than Sutton. Megan struck me as very diva-ish"

Time for my bi*chy quote: "I agree." I never liked her.

"If you do not get a picture or an autograph with a performer you adore - be glad you got to see them live in the show at all. Many people in America, London, and beyond would KILL to see them in a Broadway show."

True dat.

"Yul Brynner had it right when he did King & I at the Uris (now Gershwin). His car went right into the building, and he never ever had to encounter anybody."

Now that's PIMP.

I met Sutton outside the stagedoor at Millie (granted this was four years ago). However, we had to literally be watching carefully and run after her, because she made a very quick exit. I was actually talking to Christian (her then-boyfriend, now-hubby) and it was pretty funny, because my eyes started darting from him to her, him to her. He finally was like, "Go get her." I did and she did sign autographs and do pics. But it was quick. Actually, Christian came back up to me after and talked me some more. (Obviously after that I'm a big fan of his!) I think that she's incredibly shy and really doesn't enjoy the stagedoor experience. I didn't get the feeling that she was trying to blow us off or act like a diva, she's just not comfortable with the attention. And that was after her Tony-win, but just at the beginning of the Sutton craze. So I can only imagine that the crush at the door to see her is incredible now.

That's just my take on it. re: Sutton Foster/YF Stagedoor

PS. I agree with previos postings. While it's disappointing to not get to meet someone you admire, it's so exciting at least see them in the show! Being from the midwest originally, it was a rare treat to go to NYC and see a show. I've been lucky enough to see some people that I have always admired. I get super excited to see any show, but REALLY excited to see someone in the cast that I am a fan of already. I just count it as an added bonus to my theatre-going experience.

So what time should I get to the stagedoor before the show to catch Sutton? 6:45ish?

seen the show twice, and she came out of the stage door both times...

Roger Bart did not, and he was the only one.

honestly do you really want to be stalking her? I hate the idea of prestagedooring because actors are on their way in and are in a rush.

I agree with Glory, waiting pre-show to get an autograph is slightly stalkerish.

I agree with the pre-show thing...weird.

However, I have not had negative experiences with Sutton at all (which is good, because she is basically my idol). I went to the Drowsy Chaperone and waited at the stagedoor to see her. She came out and signed everyone's playbill (and accepted a strange gift bag from a small child...now THAT was weird)...and then took a picture with me! I thought she was great out there!

If she doesn't come out when I see Young Frankenstein, though, I will be incredibly upset.

I've never met Sutton but I don't know how anyone can stagedoor after every performance. If you're tired after a show, it's best not to deal with people at all. If someone wants an autograph that badly, there is the US postal system.

She rarely came out for Drowsy. I got to see her because I have connections with the musical director. She met with some of my students after a performance.

Going before the show to catch her isn't weird at all, nor is it stalkerish. She was known for not coming out after The Drowsy Chaperone, and everyone that knew that got her before she went in. She never minded at all. I've done it many times. I'm sure it's not different with Young Frankenstein. I guess I'll just arrive at around 6:45ish.

I didn't know people did pre-show stagedooring. I think it's something I wouldn't do, but if you really want to meet Sutton and that's the only way... then

Not that I have met her for a long period of time or anything, but she was really sweet when I met her. It was my birthday and she talked to me for a little bit. I'm not going to lie, I would be incredibly disappointed if I couldn't meet her after watching YF or any show that I saw with her in it. I love Sutton Foster and I would love to meet her again. She is probably who I would go to the stage door for if she was in a show I went to go see, however, so I am sure it would be incredibly upsetting not to see her... but some actors/actresses are honestly shy and aren't always willing to do stage door. I'm not going to lie, I didn't get to meet Christian after Legally Blonde and I was so disappointed because all of my past stage door experiences I met everyone I wanted to, but I got over it.

Suprisingly enough, her brother Hunter is the same way. He exits out of the stage door but you have to literally stop him if you want an autograph or a picture. I know people who got very upset and bitchy after his production of Frankenstein because they weren't quick enough to stop him. However he was always nothing but kind and gracious in signing autographs and having a quick chat for a minute. It's a shame how people give other performers a bad name just because they don't want to do the whole stage door thing.

The stage door is a privlege not a right, some performers are really into it and others just aren't, the same goes with audiences. It's a shame that Sutton isn't as stage door friendly like she was when she was just starting out but I'm sure she's met her fair share of people that have turned her off to it. I'm sure that most of her bigger fans have already met her and gotten that autograph. For everyone else, well like someone else said, there's always postal mail!

Sutton came out on 12/4 and she was adorable . She posed for pictures , even agreed to take a second picture after a woman's camera wouldn't work. She spoke with all of us and was very down to earth and gracious. She even mentioned having seen some of us in the audience. All of the YF cast were lovely especially Andrea Martin and Fred Applegate.

I saw YF on December 1st and Sutton Foster came out of the door. Actually...Matthew Morrison randomly showed up and picked her up. She was very gracious. I have met her before after Millie and Little Women. She is very sweet...sort of soft-spoken, but very lovely. She signed and took photos with anyone who wanted one.

re: Sutton Foster/YF Stagedoor

Megan came out after Sutton and was more then willing to autograph playbills, but she didn't take pictures with anyone...with the exception of a little girl around the age of 8.

Two nights before I saw YF I walked by the stage door and I saw Andrea Martin signing playbills, but the night I saw it, two nights later, she never came out re: Sutton Foster/YF Stagedoor

Roger Bart was actually the very first person out of the stage door. He was very friendly and sweet. He signed everybody's playbills and hopped in his car and left. He was somewhat quiet.

Christopher Fitzgerald never came out and he was one of the ones I wanted most to come out. Oh well...

But everyone that DID come out was very gracious and appreciative.

And pre-show stage dooring? That's a little tacky...
