Originating a lead role in a huge budget musical is very different than replacing in a washed up revival of a show that has been the butt of jokes for decades.

I don't believe anybody was actually saying Foster was joining this production but thanks for chiming in!

If a character had a song like more to the story, I would want to be in the show too. But yet they cut it from the show. I really don't think Shrek is a terrible show, while it wasn't as great as the other shows that season it was better than many other movie to stage musicals.

I did, and I have above-average reading comprehension. Merriam-Webster defines washed-up as: "no longer successful, popular, or needed." 

Could you point out what about the production is "washed up?"

I'm sure the people who've been associated with it have been making jokes and laughing too.  All the way to the bank. Make me rich and you can make me the butt of jokes to your heart's content.
