Posted: 12/30/05 at 12:10amI saw her perform Eponine during the tour performances at Tucson, AZ, San Diego, CA, and Los Angeles, CA. She was amazing, brought a different style to Eponine. Not the typical betrayed-waif character portrayed by other actors, she was a very strong and willful Eponine. Unfortunately, she was a little too tall to be paired with that actor who played Marius. She deserved the Tony for Millie.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 12:23amI agree 100%. She was an incredibly powerful Eponine, both vocally and in her acting. However, I too believe she was much, much too tall to be paired with Tim Howar (Marius). I remember her holding his books over his head during Look Down, and him stretching to reach them. He couldn't! I saw her in Fresno, CA.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 12:28amFor those of you who have seen both Sutton Foster and Diana Kaarina, which did you prefer? For me, it was Sutton. Diana Kaarina's super sweet, super cute Eponine bothered me, but she is vocally one of the best!

Posted: 12/30/05 at 1:00amI think Sutton's "On My Own," is far and away the best I have ever heard.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 1:03amSutton was much better as Eponine...Diana was way too cutesy, though her voice was amazing. Sutton's my favorite Eponine besides Sarah Uriarte-Berry.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 1:48amTheres something about it though.. "on my own" is a good song and.. one of the only songs Eponine sings be herself, but I just dont think Eponine showed of Suttons amazing voice.. I think she could.. possibly do Cosette...

Posted: 12/30/05 at 2:57amI saw Sutton as Eponine and she was fantastic. Very intense, determined and headstrong, and definitely not the Eppybopper's Eponine *cough*dianakaarina*cough*. I really liked her and I wish I could've seen her more than once -- and not from the balcony!

Posted: 12/30/05 at 4:27amI unfortunately missed her, as I saw an understudy. I have a recording of her On My Own, however, and it is mindblowing. Broadway_Bound_Star: how would Cosette show off her voice more? I personally think Cosette is a wet blanket role, and although her songs are much higher than Eponine's, they pretty much stay in the same place. OMO shows off a lot of vocal range, especially the way Sutton sings it.

I always thought of Cosette as more difficult if only because you have a wall of Eppyboppers to conquer. She's a wonderful character with a challengingly -- is that a word? -- small amount of stage time.
(That said, I've seen a lot more mediocre Eponines than Cosettes, whatever that may mean.)

Posted: 12/30/05 at 11:49amFunny Story: I work at a theatre where the national tours all play and Les Mis was there.....well....I was leaving work after intermission and I was standing in the hallway waiting for my ride and Eponine was singing On My Own and I could hear it. I could not believe how good this actress was and I remember saying to myself "This girl is going to be a star." Sure enough, few years later I find out that it was Sutton Foster playing the role of Eponine at that performance.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 2:14pmI think Sutton would be aa good Mary Poppins, I could just see her in that role.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 2:46pmI've heard parts of her performance, and I really do think that she nailed it.

les mis is my parents favorite musical and i can't even count how many times they took me to see when i was younger. out of all those performances, the one playbill i made sure i saved was from when sutton was eponine (and obviously i had no idea who she was at the time), because i just loved her and thought "i want to sound like her someday!"
absolutley amazing.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 3:12pmWhen I think of the role of Eponine, I only think of Sutton. She was amazing and her "A Little Fall of Rain" had me and the rest of the audience crying....it was such a beautifully acted moment.

Posted: 12/30/05 at 4:37pmSutton's rendition of "On My Own" is the only version that doesn't annoy me. She sounds phenomenal on each and every recording I've heard her.
