Posted: 10/1/05 at 8:50pmNo, haven't seen them yet. But on Tuesday!!!!!!! I did hear they were modern day, so I'm *very* psyched. All I can say is I hope to see Michael in a pair of really cool Dr. Martens.

yea it is
"i wanted it to be wuite modern in a way that said these characters could be you or me...we're aiming to be more real" is what they say

Posted: 10/2/05 at 12:03amI like Sweeney's a lot, but Mrs. Lovett's act II costume (assuming it's for act II) is ridiculous.

disclaimer: this is in no way meant to offend patti lupone
but... a woman of ms. lupone's age should not be wearing an outfit like that, it screams "17 year old who thinks she's a punk"

Posted: 10/2/05 at 12:55amI thought the costume looks more like an older socialite's outfit. Very wrong for her age, but intentionally so.

Posted: 10/2/05 at 12:58amHmmm...Im guessing this production will take a bit of a different approach to the show? I agree with chinkie; Ms. Lovett's costume is...interesting?

Oh, this just keeps getting better and better.
The hardest thing is gonna be refraining from reading the 1st night of previews reviews!

Posted: 10/2/05 at 10:04amThe Mrs Lovett costume is the Act2 costume first seen during "More Hot Pies". From what I can see in the drawing it appears pretty much identical to the London costume. The costume is a variation of her first act costume with obvious over the top changes which indicate Mrs Lovetts favouable financial situation and possible the intesification of her love for Sweeney with the strong use of red. Intrestingly the red used is a very stong blood red!!.

I understand taking some risks with a play, especially a revival, but COME ON...
It's almost as if Bialystock and Bloom are producing this show to be a major flop on purpose. Way too many gimmicks going on here at once.
The only thing missing so far is that the cast isn't in black-face like a minstrel show, and they're not gliding around on ice skates...
...yet.
I want my "Sweeney" back. Save the far-out concepts for the 99-seat plan.
