I was like 'something is off with this clip..."

and then I realized there is no background sound effects.

but yeah. 2007 turned out some great movie musicals. Don't f it up Mamma Mia.

"Alternative Sweeney" indeed...

Bustopher -

I have a feeling after the movie is released, it will be considered the "Definitive Sweeney."

Well, I know a lot of people who consider Gerard Butler the "Definitive Phantom".

Um, yikes.

Ah, you conveniently deleted that part where you included yourself in that category. re: Sweeney Todd Myspace w/ Epiphany film clip now up!

Yeah, I had a kick back to when I first saw the film and thought that way when I wrote that. I've come to my senses, though.

As for Depp's performance, I have a feeling I'm just too used to George Hern's a-thousand-bloodveins-bursting rendition.

wow! Depp is much better than I expected. I hope this movie can still live up to all the hype... from what I've seen/heard it certainly will! I'm so glad Sweeney is getting the recognition it deserves, and I really think that Depp is going to be giving a totally different interpretation than Hearn or Cerveris, but I think Depp's interpretation will be more pleasing to the mainstream (I mean that in a good way).

Do I smell some Oscars?!?!

that looks pretty cool. johnny depp seems a little removed, however, for such an emotionally outpouring moment. i want there to be more passion. but im still excited!

God, I hope so.

But Daniel Day-Lewis... he's practically a god in Hollywood, and he's getting raves for THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

Yeah I have the same problem too, especially with Angela's Lovett that makes Helena's sound weak rather than "soft"(as she's described as in reviews/articles). I'm going to try so hard not to listen to Hearn and Lansbury till after I see the movie.

Gah, I know I'm gonna be a minority, but I actually dislike Hearn's rendition. He hams it up too much and instead of feeling the music, it's like he's saying "Oh, look at me! I'm a better singer than Len Cariou!" Michael Cervaris is too boring, but that may be unfair, as I've hardly seen him as Sweeney. Len Cariou is my favorite Sweeney, because unlike Hearn, he seems to understand what "subtility" means.

Johnny Depp's vocal interpretation is very interesting, probably my second favorite. But yes, he does seem kind of removed from the action. I hope he doesn't act like this throughout the entire movie. . .
