yeah, he didn't seem as into it when he was singing in the studio. Almost like Emo Todd or something. Then they cut back to the movie and it seemed better to me. Still gonna have to get used to how it sounds though.

spiderdj82, that's not the new trailer. The newest trailer for Sweeney was the one that debut on the Spike TV Scream Awards.
In all honesty, that was just wow. He's not the greatest singer, but he can keep a tune and he does have a decent voice.
I enjoy Johnny and I think he'll play the part competently but I wish he had a bit more weight to his voice. I adored the clip of "Johanna" but he needs a bit more oomph for "Epiphany."

Ooo I got chills
It was new to me.
I think his voice is pleasant, but that's the biggest problem. I don't think he's the best candidate for Sweeney - too tenor-y in his tones. However, he's doing an admirable job for such a big name star famous with teeney-boppers who has never sang before, and his presence in the film guarantees it will do well which is just delightful.
On the plus side, from what we've been shown, Burton seems to have a done a terrific job of directing the film - i think he really understands the characters, and from his choices, how to direct a showstopper on film, so after seeing this, I'm very excited. Even though I was let down by Depp's voice, the presentation of the clip was enough to completely draw me in.

I know, it's ordinary sentence here but: I really can't wait! Sondheim is rarely known composer (only as a author of lyrics of "West Side Story" here in Czech republic, so audience would be going just to "new Tim Burton movie", but I know Steven Sondheim, so I enjoy it as the musical for first, and as Tim Burton movie for second.

I can't see it!
I think this version will work best for Theatre Audiences. I guess it had to be short. Is there a link to the new one or should I just be smart and look up SpikeTV? It would still be useful to put up that link here if possible.
I missed the singing in it again but I will rest on the thought that the more people who see it the better exposure it will have. I still think it will be interesting to see the Audience reactions to this. Especially those not into the Theatre in general.
I don't mind Johnny's voice. I think it will be more powerful under dolby mega sound through giant speakers. It is creepy enough. Just seeing it in clips is not the same as the big Theatre experience.
I don't expect it to be high Broadway quality, just the next best thing. I take it as it is. I enjoy Broadways Shows coming to Video in story form. Since so many originated from books, it just fills in the blanks and expands the experience for me.
Movies won't take the place of a live show for me. They just tide me over until I have my next opportunity to see something I like.
