Posted: 7/14/05 at 1:40amPlease link the articles where either Playbill.com or Broadway.com have officially announced LuPone as Lovett. They both have reported the "rumors" that she is in talks and negotiations to play the role, but, to my knowledge, the producers of the production have not yet made any official final casting announcement to them or anyone else.

there has been no announcement but the sweeney page on Broadway.com lists Patti as being in the cast...
Tony winners Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone star in this dark musical revival by the legendary Stephen Sondheim.

Posted: 7/14/05 at 9:17amyeah, all that I've read has just been speculation and rumor. I would absolutely love to see Patti as Mrs. Lovett, but after hearing the raves about Betty Buckley down in Texas, I'm hoping this might be the vehicle to Bring he back to Broadway.

Posted: 7/14/05 at 12:08pmSeymour -- Don't expect Betty Buckley to appear in a Stephen Sondheim musical on Broadway anytime soon. He is not a fan...
#21re: Sweeney Todd has found a theatre
Posted: 7/14/05 at 12:11pmI'd be interested in reading those raves for Buckley, since the production was canceled before it played a single performance.

MEF- I wasn't aware it was canceled. I think the review was a link off buckley website, but I'm not sure.
Michael Bennett- oh I didn't know he wasn't a fan of hers. Well, Bring on Lupone!

Posted: 7/14/05 at 12:43pmRegarding Buckley as Ms. Lovett...I have a really hard time seeing her in the role. The character is suppose to be daffy and whimsical (remember Dorothy Louden eventually replaced Lansbury in the role). In fact, Ms. Lovett offers what little comic relief there is in this somber piece. I just don't see Buckley as funny and a dark Ms. Lovett seems all wrong to me but I'd still like to hear her sing it.

Posted: 7/14/05 at 4:08pmMy understanding is that they are in the process of sorting out contracts with the Musician's union, as the actors will also be the musicians. Until then, no "Official" announcement.
