Sweeney Todd last night 7-11-06 (kinda long)

Yesterday I saw Sweeney Todd for the 7th but not the last time. I mainly went to purchase a t-shirt that Lauren Molina had designed shirts with the ST logo in my avatar. I bought the shirt and got a student rush ticket. The show itself was amazing as always and I had the pleasure for the first time of seeing Ben Eakley as the Beadle. After the show there was a talk-back with members of the Law School from NYU. Natually, I stayed(lol)! The understudies, Mano, Michael and Mark Jacoby were in attendance. Mano mentioned casting for a tour(???) and that they were currently casting for Alex's replaement. Michael stated agian that Patti and him were signed until thanksgiving and there wasn't any mention of when it would close. There was some interesting discussions about revenge, corruption and the white casket. If anyone is interested, they can PM me and I'll go into detail.

When did they start selling those t-shirts? I saw it last November and didn't get a t-shirt so I grabbed one when I was there in June. They didn't have those. I want one!!!

I was supposed to stop by there today and get one. I totally forgot.

You can only buy the shirts by contacting Lauren Molina. They aren't avilable to the general public/souviner counter. She has a myspace account and website Laurenmolina.com for contact information. They are $25 and come in regular t-shirts and form fitting t-shirts.

You have to let her know in advance if you're going to pick one up after the show. If not, you can order them from her online and she'll mail it to you.

Did you just go to the stage door after the show and she just had it for you when she came out?

She said either after the show, or an hour befor.e I imagine that either way, you'd have to let her know that you're there and she'll get it for you.

I haven't gotten mine yet, as I forgot I was supposed to go pick it up.

I think they look a lot better than the shirts with just the logo on them. I hope I can still pick one up when I see the show, even though shell be on vacation.

Ljay, Ben's Beadle is very different from Alex's in that I prefer Alex's more sarcastic approach in comparison to Ben's. I enjoyed Ben's singing and he did look the part, just in a different way.

In response to picking up the t-shirt, I wrote an email to her letting her know I would be in the area and an hour before the show, spoke to the stage door person who called her down.

Someone asked me to go into detail about the white coffin ect..(and I lost their email) so I'll just post it here. I asked the stage manager what his opinion/interpretation of the white coffin was and he responded that John Dolye has a specific interpretation but leaves it up for the cast and audience members to create their own. He said that John stressed to the cast that it wouldn't mean anything to them if he told them his opinion. It was also discussed with Michael and Mano who responded the same way. In terms of revenge and corruption, because this was a law school many in the audience asked Mark who he thought was the most corrupt and revengeful. He asked the audience and many thought that it was a trickle down affect starting with the Judge and his misconduct with Lucy, Mrs. Lovett with Sweeney and Johanna and Anthony's violence at Fogg's asylum. I asked Mano about his tranformation in character and he discussed how Doyle sees the show every 6 weeks and that the evolution in the characters is never ending. He also talked about how John once pulled him aside after a show and asked Mano who he thougth was the most dangerous person in the show. John said that Toby was stating that anyone in a straight jacket was someone to be cautious of. This, Mano said, caused him to study his character in a new light which added to the nuances you see now (sniffing, walking on his tippy toes ect...)

That was my opinion too! I've always felt that shirts with the standard logo are so cheesy but these you can actually wear. I haven't even bought a show shirt yet and don't really plan on it either...not after this one!

but this shirt is way more stylish.

Anyway I REALLY need to see this show again, I'm dying to. I have a feeling it has changed A LOT since I saw it like 3 days after it opened in November.

Is Lauren Molina the lady who runs the stand at the O'neal? If so, she is a really cool lady. I had a very nice conversation with her in June when I stopped by to get my shirt.

ljay, when I asked Mano about his character's change, I mentioned that I saw it the 1st preview and a few times after and he laughed and said "wow, we didn't even know our lines much less our characters". Yes, alot has changed!

Ljay, the show has changed a lot since like....March, so I can't imagine how much it has changed since November.
